So is there any non-cable card service out there that will let you record/pause/skip and watch at 1.5x (or faster speed)? It would also be nice to control it with a 10ft interface or remote.

YouTube TV says you can skip if you record, but it won’t always let you watch the recorded version if a VOD is available. Also it is not clear if you can watch at faster speeds (maybe with a browser addon).
Yeah, TiVo with locally recorded content is always better (for many reasons including the ones you stated) than Cloud DVR, which is why I stayed with Optimum till now (that, and with my old Bundle, it was actually cheaper than streaming).

Sad to have to leave TiVo, but knew it would happen someday (and lasted longer than I expected), but always thought it was going to be because Optimum dropped Cablecard support, not because of a bug in PowerKEY.

Decided to go with YTTV, which is ok. Looked at Hulu Live for a few hours as well, but as I‘m going with T-Mobile Home Internet (no other Internet options in my area, and Optimum will double my fee when I break the Bundle), I read there are issues with Hulu Live and CGNAT that cellular uses. No Fiber in my area yet, but Optimum will have it available someday, and the cost is about the same as TMHI, so I may have another Internet option later on.

Come to think of it, if they’re disabling all cards, why include the picture at all in their letter?

The picture just adds more confusion.
Well... the letter says species PowerKey cards. The picture in the letter does not look like how I remember mine to look (although that's a long time ago). If I pull my Cable Card out from my Tivo just to look at it, can I just plug it back in and it'll resume working? Afraid to touch it if there's a chance of messing it up.

Do we know if Optimum has non-PowerKey cable cards out there that will continue to work? I'm more confused than ever.

I am Verizon FiOS Customer with a Tivo and I have a cable card. The only issue is that the price increased a few years ago to $10/card. I do not recall the brand of Cable Card and as far as I know, FiOS will still be supporting Cable Cards past October. However I will be calling this week to confirm and see if I can order at least two more to replace my Optimum/Altice service. I have both Optimum and FIOS for Internet redundantcy. However clearly it is time to cut off Optimum after 37 years.

FYI Unlike Altice/Optimum, FiOS still work during a power outage as long as you have a UPS or Generator to Power your ONT and Home Equipment (Router, WIFI, Tivo, Set Top Box, TV, Phone, etc.). FiOS Fiber is a single strand of Fiber directly from the Head End Central Office to your Home that does NOT pass through any intermediary devices. So presuming that the Verizon FiOS Transmission Facility has Backup Power and is not physically affected by a natural disaster, if your home has limited power for your FiOS Equipment, you have your triple play services.
I will try harder to see if I can convince them to give me a cable card, which would make my decision very easy. My impression so far is that existing CC users are grandfathered, but they won't issue them to new customers.

For what it's worth, Optimum has mostly worked for me through power outages, thanks to our back-up generator. It's actually been extremely reliable over the years. But the pricing under Altice has gotten nuts.

We don’t know.

If they do have any non-PowerKey cards they’re very few, and would seem like they’re stopping support in those too just to be consistent.

There’s no “convincing”. Fios still offers cards to new and current subscribers.

Posts to the contrary were incorrect.

You may need to order service first and add a cablecard after, by calling.

You can get Cablecard info in the TiVo Settings. Even if the card is SA (mine is), the settings will say Cisco:

Just tried to get a Optimum stream to try, but I was told I can't use with my CableCard. I could get a Samsung box but I already know about that. Apple TV is $130 so probably better then renting a box.

You don’t use the stream box WITH your cablecard.

But you do need to be an Optimum internet customer. (And perhaps use their modem/router as well)

I also read that the Cisco cards would work. Two of my 3 Tivos have Cisco (one of which is in storage), so I called them to help me move that one to the Tivo with the SA card. The technician told me the same thing and said since I already had 2 Cisco cards, I had nothing to worry about.

Then I read this: https://www.lightreading.com/security/altice-usa-s-powerkey-cablecards-will-soon-go-on-the-blink and so now I doubt that she knew what she was talking about. I'm looking at DirectTV over Internet as a possible replacement.
We've all basically gotten used to it - but it is unreal how poorly informed and generally incompetent their reps are.

I saw a FB post where an Optimum user actually had a Motorola card. I believe they were in North Carolina and the card came from a previous cable company that was bought out by Optimum, so my guess is that they just use whatever infrastructure existed prior to the buyout. I'm curious to know if their service will continue uninterrupted post 11/24. My guess is that they will actually be ok but I'm sure they will never get a solid answer from Optimum.

Test driving T-Mobile Home Internet for a few days. Much better than I expected (I’m not too far from a tower). Getting good speeds, and I’ll probably get a waveform outdoor antenna as well.
Cons: 1) As cell modems use CGNAT, no home IP address / static IP, so can’t port forward (not an issue for me) and 2) I’ve read issues with Hulu Live (only live) where Hulu thinks you’re changing locations, also due to CGNT (not an issue for me as I’ve decided on YTTV)

Dropping Optimum in a few days.

This contradicts what Verizon told me. I have FiOS in my second place and they have explicitly told me that they will not add TV to plan. I signed up for FiOS in January of 2021.

They won’t add tv?!

Well that’s a whole different matter.
Yep, and I have 1Gbe service with the ONT that supports RF. It's in my vacation place near Boston so I can't physically verify it right now but I about 95% certain that I've seen the RF port on the hardware. From what I see, no one is interested in adding to their "linear television" customer base except companies that have built out an IPTV offering. those with an IPTV product are more than willing to sell you IPTV service but not RF based service. That's just what I see though.

Fios sells different services in different regions.

For whatever reason they must not sell tv service in that area.

They may not have rights to sell tv service in certain municipalities. The cable company there may still have exclusive rights.

It is possible for them to have legal rights to lay fiber and sell internet, but not television service.
