Lost reference of the night: Emma and Mary Margaret were drinking MacCutcheon.

In this episode Charming's father (not his real father though) agreed to give Rumplestiltskin the fairy Godmother's wand. I can't remember if he had it in the Cinderella episode.

As best as I can tell, Charming's father agreed to give Rumplestiltskin a way to locate the Fairy Godmother, which led to him making her go *poof* in the episode "The Price of Gold" (two weeks ago), giving him the wand.

This episode also led directly into the events that we saw in "Snow Falls" (three weeks ago) with Charming and Snow White.

In other words, they decided to reveal the story in the Fairy Tale World in reverse order.

They are doing a great job of jumping around in the timeline yet keeping things consistent and easy to follow.

I like how they went the non-magical route with Rumplestiltskin giving the king a son. When he was talking about giving the king a son because the queen was infertile, I assumed he had enchanted her so she could become pregnant.

Nope. He just paid another family for their kid. How mundane.

But also smart if you happen to know that the first twin will end up dying, and you can replace him with the second who will end up being the father of the child whose name you will know, and therefore can control.

I wonder how far back Rumplestiltskin's plan goes.

I'm getting more and more impressed as the pull things like this off, the Lost pedigree is showing its benefits in the quality of the story lines. Between the solid background stories and the nice nods to viewers that are paying attention, and the fact that some things aren't as mystical as first suspected, it's very nice to be surprised in the good way every week.

I completely didn't bite on the David-"I remember everything" cliffhanger. He was looking at the front yard windmill in Gold's shop, which Charming would know nothing about, so to me it was obvious he remembered his "real world" life, probably with Gold's help, and not the fairy tale world.

Was there a windmill at the farm? I don't remember seeing one but I wasn't paying attention to any background stuff.

I feel a little left out on all the Lost references... I never watched it, except for the last episode, so though I noticed the name of the stuff the women were drinking (and how it wasn't anything I'd heard of), it meant nothing to me. :/

I don't believe Rumpel is micromanaging closely enough to use a twin because he knew the Prince would die in the future.
I just think that he is crafty enough that when asked to provide a baby for a KING he is smart enough to give him one of a set of twins.
Just to have something in his back pocket for later.
I could be wrong but we won't know until

the Rumpelstiltskin backstory episode "Desperate Souls" airs January 8th.

I liked how the Mr Gold / Charming bit played out in his store. Starting from the word "Charming", which of course has us wondering if it might still be coincidence or if Mr Gold really does know all that he seems. And then having the windmill and somehow triggering or injecting the curse memories to break up Charming and Snow White.

I assume the Mayor basically sent him to Mr Gold for that purpose. Although that makes you wonder how much she thinks Gold knows.

Given his penchant for making little puns on the characters' fairy-tale identities with a knowing smirk, I'd say either he knows or this is some of the worst writing/acting/directing in the history of television. I'm betting he knows.

Yes, it makes you wonder.
Both of them know; how much is yet to be determined. Also the Mayor surely knows where the toll bridge is yet purposely gave James/Prince C. wrong directions that led him directly to Golds/Rumples shop.

The thing I want to know is, what is Golds/Rumples part in all this? Does he want to break the curse or keep the curse?

James first looks at the unicorn baby mobile that was originally in the room with Snow White and baby. Mr. Gold then says Charming! James then says sorry? And Gold says the mobile Isnt it charming? (ha ha, wink, wink). Do you want it? I can take it down for you.

James says thanks no, gets the correct directions from Gold and then sees the windmill as he is about to leave. This windmill unfortunately joggles James false memory of life with Kathryn.

Notice that Mr. Gold didnt point to any items to jog the memory of James. He let James do it himself.

I caught a glimpse of Aladdin's lamp in Gold's shop. I bet there were lots of other fairy tale items scattered around that set.

I think he is an agent of chaos, and as such doesn't really care one way or another about someone else's life, wish, curse, whatever. He just delight's in making deals. If the Evil Queen's curse were to fail, that's just more opportunity for him to make other deals.

I believe the Ferengi rules of Acquisition are appropriate here:

34. Peace is good for business.
35. War is good for business.

And I think he delights in deals the way genies and the devil traditionally delight in deals...that is, making deals that don't work out the way you planned. Which feeds into your agent-of-chaos theory...when everybody's deals go awry, they're scrambling to improve their position, which makes then vulnerable to new deals.

But I don't think it's just about generating new business...I think he genuinely enjoys messing with people, and outsmarting them.

in the pawn shop i also wondered if that tea set they focused on was from alice in wonderland, that would be a fun side story

It is great and I am enjoying getting into the backstories and how they reflect the real story. Nicely done.

There is a Beauty and the Beast episode coming up on the Sunday before Valentine's Day- aren't there teacups in that as well?

I agree they lay out the back stories so well. I just hope they can keep it up the stories are perfectly inter-weaved so far. I can't wait for rumple's back story episode. The guy has everyone in his back pocket it would seem. It was a nice touch to let us know how rumple was able to get the wand and get Cinderella's into a deal at the same time.
