Awesome back story episode. Once it was revealed who the lamp finder was, I knew where this story would end... but I liked how it got there.

The Stranger gets the book... I think we all thought he would eventually, but given that Regina had Sydney shadowing Emma and Henry, I would have expected HER to have the book at this point. She did say that the playground layout was inspired by drawings in the book... that really made me think she had it again.

I don't know why, but I didn't trust Sydney from the get-go. It all seemed contrived, and he was constantly pushing Emma to get her hands dirty. So I wasn't surprised when he and Regina had their heart-to-heart at the end.

I guess we still haven't seen how Snow took away Regina's chance at true love; wasn't that the given reason why Regina hates Snow? I assumed it was related to Snow's father but I guess not: it was the king's first wife who Regina was jealous of (if she was ever even jealous: the entire thing might have been a ploy to get the genie to kill the king). Then I thought maybe Regina really was in love with the genie and Snow would be the one who accused him but I guess not that either.
Very dumb of Emma to trust Sidney like that.
From the moment he approached her, I knew he was playing her.
(unless Emma's going for the long con herself.)

Good episode though. I also enjoyed the back story on Genie/Sidney Glass.

And although we haven't seen exactly why the Queen wanted Snow dead, we do see that she wasn't very happy that Snow's place in the King's heart was before hers.
It’s too bad Mr. Glass still has a thing for Regina. He probably thinks he’s got a shot with her now, since he double-crossed Emma. When she put her hand on his knee he perked up a little (got a woody!). Unfortunately, he doesn’t remember the queen playing him for a fool back in fairy tale land.

Also, why does “the stranger” have Henry’s book? Did Gold give it to him? And who the hell is he? I guess we will find out by sweeps week.

It so frustrating that Emma is getting fooled yet again. It’s also a bit unsettling to see that Mary Margaret and David are not so virtuous in StoryBrooke. Maybe David should leave his wife if doesn’t want to be married to her any more.

This

At some point the heroes have to gain the upper hand, at least for a little while. Emma just seems to come out loser every single time.

Im hoping at some point that they actually manage to break the curse and everyone, including Emma goes back to Fairytale Land as Regina tries to re-establish the curse. Having some of the storyline take place there would be pretty cool I think. The equivalent to Lost's "getting off the island" but still managing to keep it plodding along for what, 3 more seasons?

I can see many years of this type of current storyline getting old.
When the stranger asked Henry what he was drawing, I thought Henry called him 'Dad', so I rewound. I think he actually said 'Duh'.
I wonder who Regina was talking to on the phone when she said she didn't have time for complaints and she could not control air temperature.

Regina is the only one who has the same name in both this world and Fairy Tale world. Makes sense.
I can't stand the actor that plays the Jeannie... ugh .. he is so awful.

And that play house... it really looked awful! And way in the woods?

WHAT??!! Go over into a Breaking Bad thread and say that. You'll have people knocking on your door.
The one who I thought was awful was Richard Schiff, who's usually so good. But he's usually playing a modern New York Jewish intellectual type; I guess fairy-tale king is out of his range. His diction sounded straight out of a high school play.

I am guessing the stranger followed henry or emma to the park and saw him digging up the book. Then after everyone left he came back and dug it up and took it.

I am glad to see regina is still 2 steps a head of emma. Sets her up as a great cunning evil queen. The way she always plays peoples emotions to get what she wants is just great. When emma finally does figure out a way to beat regina it should make it much sweeter. Mr. Gold seems to always be right there when emma messes up to try and get her into some kind of deal.

I loved the fairytale storyline this week. A few questions where even answered like how snows dad died and how sidney ended up in the mirror.
But the writers really need to throw Emma a bone. Otherwise, she's just a dumb loser.

Playhouse looked to me to be based on EQ's pointy castle... as opposed to Henry and Emma's (now demolished) hangout.
It's location in the woods- maybe it is near the mine and thus somehow tied to the enchanted forest?

Emma sure sucks at reading blueprints.
She also caves too easily as no matter what the $50k was spent on, Mayor Mills did it unethically.
A deal with Mr. Gold in the woods in the middle of the night?
Emma is supposed to be smarter than this.

Yes, absolutely dreadful, like someone who didn't have time to rehearse for a sketch on SNL and was reading off cue-cards.
I thought Emma had the ability to detect when someone was lying to her. That seems to have dropped.
I thought Emma's actions in this episode were very out of character for her. Usually, she's pretty smart and knows when to act and when to keep her cards close to the vest. But here, she stood up in the city council meeting and made wild accusations with barely any evidence and without even understanding what the blueprints were. How did they know Regina didn't give her own cash to Gold? This was just an overall poorly-written episode.
Terrible episode. Emma was a carpet to be walked on in this episode. This isn't the reason I watch this show.

I'll give it a few more episodes, but if this kind of writing keeps up this show is going to slide down my "what I want to watch first" list.

The only thing I liked about this episode was getting more back story.

I finally figured out why the face of the stranger is familiar. He was the boyfriend/lover/whatever to the main chick on Covert Affairs.

I keep hoping that whatever it is with this stranger, it's good and ends up being something to help fight the evil queen with. At the very least, the evil queen doesn't want him in Storybrook and that alone makes me like him.

I'm thinking her Bull Sh*T detector only works on kids and bail jumpers.

I would expect it to be based on her castle There. And there might be some reason to put it way out there... maybe it's built on top of something.
