On the positive side - Hats off to Tivo Developers

I have been a 14-year Tivo customer and was on the verge of giving up and ditiching my many Tivos. After so many years of paying out my monthly fees, it really urked me that development seemed to stall and the company was only interested in collecting monthly fees without spending any of it to innovate, improve, and keep their products "current". When the premiere came out, I excitedly plunked down my cash and most disappointed with the early beta state of the software and almost unusable sluggishness of the user interface and overall experience.

I am glad I hung in there becasue I couldn't be happier with the way everything seems to be going. I know that the programmers have much work to do to fix the many bugs in the 10.2 release, but keep up the good work becasue I have never been happier with the direction and progress that the Tivo OS is heading. Love the Elite's 4-tuners, I AM ESTATIC about the new multi-room streaming (my old ReplayTVs have been able to do this for over 10 years), I love the IPad adn Android apps, and can once again feel good about plunking down the fees month after month and know that I am getting value for it. Any technology company needs to continue developing their products and the moment they stop trying to make it better, is the monent they start dying. I hope there isn't another point in the future where Tivo becomes complacent with their product.....becasue it is new features and "coolness" such as what was added in the latest release that keep customers (like myself) around for the long haul.

Nice Job!

Amen!

This update is really great looking. One of the most important things that keep customers coming back is software and attention to detail.

It feels great when you buy a product and later on it gets software updates that improve the original feature set and make it more fun to use.

It's software updates like these that make customers become loyal and look forward to buying more from that company.

Give us more and we will want more.
Software is more important then hardware these days.

Great job tivo!
We look forward to seeing even more software updates in the future.

Between 4 tuners and an immense amount (for me) of storage space, I *love* my new Elite. Happiest I've ever been.

Word has it Comcast VOD will be released by summer. That would be a real plus!
Hear, Hear!!

I totally agree with the above posts. I have been a TiVo user for years and with this new update to my Premieres (I received 20.2 yesterday) it reaffirms my decision to stay with a great platform. Thanks to all and TiVo and the members of this community who helped with the update. Since adding my two Elites a few months ago, it seems software developers are in overdrive to Wow me every month or so. Thanks again!

exactly my thoughts.

Just upgraded from two series3 to an elite and a 'regular' premiere. (and kept an S3 for my kids to have in the basement).

Streaming is just awesome- no more arbitrary restrictions. I have comcast and dont bother with the pay channels so no real flag issues for me- but the tivo MRV of old with their wont MRV till after the show is done recording rule to suck up to the NFL was a major drag. Forced duplicate season passes all over so that we could watch certain things in more than one place in a timely manner.

The ability to delete on the other box is great- now can clean up the My shows (aka NPL) from the other room. The whole protocol that allows that and the ability to have the android and apple apps is amazing. It's too cool being able to set up a new season pass from the phone without waiting forever on the tivo to respond.

cant wait for the comcast vod.

Dreaming about some sort of streaming to the apps now too...

HD screens all around would be nice too but it's not as pathetic as I thought. Just extremely lame- not exactly to the level of pathetic. :)

Impossible, since they haven't even been around 13 years yet.

First public TiVo was March 31, 1999, so this March will be 13 years for the public, but some tests were done in the late part of 1998, still only 13 years.
This update has returned TiVo functionality to greatness!

My first TiVo was the Sony svr2000. It forever changed the way I watched TV. I sang tivos praises back then.

I later moved on to the original series 3 to embrace HD (and it was a loooong time coming). Great system! Probably the highest quality system they ever built. Probably the most expensive too.

When Premier was about to launch, TiVo overhyped it and disappointed everyone. I refused to buy it.

I now have two premiers, and it's all because of the 20.2 software release. The HD UI Made huge leaps forward. But for me the killer app is streaming. It works beautifully!

Speaking of killer apps, the iPad/iPhone apps are amazing! I love the fact that I can be lounging in bed, watching a show, and use my iPad to schedule a season pass on the other TiVo. Awesome!

Most importantly, TiVo is moving its feature-set forward in a big and RELEVANT way.

Great stuff TiVo.
Thank you for this amazing release and the mobile app support.
I find myself singing your praises once again!

I agree. I've been a subscriber through the original Tivo, then the DirecTivo, then (when DTV dropped Tivo) switched to Tivo Series 3, TivoHD, Premiere, I don't think there's a version I haven't owned.

Tivo has had a very strong year and has managed to keep ahead of the competition.

Tivo also managed to avoid pitfalls that, to me at least, seemed very daunting.

They managed to work around the switched digital stuff with the Tuning Adapter, they managed to get cable cards working reliably for HD, they got 3D working just as well as Comcast was able, and now, the holy grail, they are close to having Comcast OnDemand working.

I always used to tell folks "Tivo is great for Comcast, unless you really can't live without OnDemand". Well, here's to that changing in 2012!

Thrilled with 20.2, can't wait for the next iteration (erradicate the SD interface entirely!).

Agreed. The Android apps are, indeed, amazing! They just need to fix a few bugs and then allow us to stream video to them :)
Yeah, totally forgot about the iPad app. Tivo went from "where the hell is their iPhone app" to "wow, this is an amazing iPad app".

I sort of wish they would have given us a half-way version a year ago or something, they were oddly silent on the issue. But once it DID come up, you can't argue that it wasn't worth the wait.

Given the half-arsed states of most companies 1.0 iPad software, Tivo really hit a home run on that sucker.
