Odd Analog Problem

I did a bit of searching, and can't find this problem, so I hope it isn't unique to me.

I have a TiVo HD w/ 2 SA cards from TWC. I'm estatic that between TW getting my signal right and TiVo delivering the fix for the pixelation. My performance on digital stations is fabulous now. My HD stations come in great and there's no pixelation. Hooray for me.

The odd problem is that now the signal on my analog channels (< 100) come in snowy. After cursing out TWC and getting a bunch of cables and connectors replaced, simply disconnecting and reconnecting the cable caused the picture to be remarkably clearer. Now, every 2-3 days, the signal gets snowy again. To clear up this issue, all I have to do is unplug the cable and plug it back in. The picture gets remarkably clear after that.

To clarify, this isn't pixelation. It is like analog snow-ness like if you have a bad analog signal.

Anyone see anything like this???

Hi Joe,

If it were me, I'd check the diagnostics screen and see what my levels were both before and after the snowy analog. That will give you a measurement.

Snow on analogs would indicate (usually) a weaker signal.

When you say you are simply disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to fix, where is that connection?

The only thing I can think of that would cause something like that would be a bad or loose F-connector crimp, etc. So when you disconnect and connect back up, you are securing the connection properly for awhile. Then heat/cold contraction/expansion would loosen the connection again a few days later.

I'd really try to check the cables one more time...

I'm disconnecting/reconnecting right at the TiVo box. I'll check the signal next time in the diag screen. The TWC guys who have been here have measured a very stable signal, but that's only for a short time window.

Yeah...but your symptoms when unplugging and plugging back into the TiVo seems to indicate a problem with (likely) the F-Connector on the end of the cable connected to the TiVo.

It's not one of those "push-on" ones is it? If so, please try replacing with an actual crimped F-Connector cable that you have to screw onto the TiVo's connection. Those "Push-on" type cables are notorious for just the type of problem you describe...

If it isn't a "push-on" then I would try replacing the cable with another new RG6 connector cable (with screw-on crimped F-Connectors) and see if that helps. It really seems to me like it is probably the connector going to the TiVo...

I can swap out that cable pretty easily. It is a crimped one from the cable guy. I have some old RG6 from my happy days as a D* customer. Thx again!
