November Features?

I am about to buy a S3 and have some questions about the upcoming functionality coming in the November software update.

1. Will it be transferred over as a standard mpeg2 HD transport stream or program stream? (If I record, say Chuck from OTA, and transfer the recording to my PC)
(I assume ts, since all the Tivo is doing is saving the transmitted signal to the hard drive.)
2. If I edit out the commercials with VideoReDo and move the edited episode back to the Tivo's hard drive, will it show up and be playable?
3. Will playback of content across 2 S3's stream over the network or use a coax connection? I assume it will use the wired LAN, but not sure.
4. If I connect an eSATA drive full of edited recordings, will the Tivo recognize the file system and make avaliable all the transport streams for playback?
5. Is there any way to use the S3 to playback HD Mpeg2 transport streams stored on an Infrant NAS?

Thank You

Errr... aren't TS and PS formats used for broadcast signals? Not ethernet communications? (I might be completely wrong on this, so someone with more info might chime in).

My assumption has always been that TiVo simply sends files via some kind of TCP client/server streaming. It doesn't take a complicate protocol to send a segmented file across a TCP network.

You should be able to play any file that you can point to using TiVo Desktop regardless of if it's located on a NAS, a SAN, an external HD or whatever. But you will need TiVo Desktop.

It does all of it's transfering via ethernet and not via Coax.
Since it's unreleased don't know for sure, but assuming it's like S2 MRV/TTG functionality then:

TTG (copying a show off the Tivo to a computer) is saved in an encrypted .TiVo format which is an encrypted mpeg2 program stream.

Assuming you save it as mpeg2 program stream format then you should be able to use TTCB functionality to do that.

For either MRV or TTG you are actually making a copy of the program - it's not real time streaming. And yes it uses ethernet port (or USB wireless adapter).

No, Tivo will want to re-format the eSATA drive (marrying it to the Tivo) and wipe out everything on it. In any case with external drive connected Tivo distributes recordings across the internal and external drive, so you can't count on shows being fully contained only on external drive. You can't even move an eSATA drive from 1 Tivo to another without re-marrying it.

Presumably with TTCB functionality of Tivo Desktop this should be possible, however the NAS has to be visible to your PC and TTCB running on that PC for it to work. i.e. You can't just hook up a NAS to your network and expect all Tivos on the network to see it. You have to go through a PC gateway running Tivo Desktop or similar software.
