Errr... aren't TS and PS formats used for broadcast signals? Not ethernet communications? (I might be completely wrong on this, so someone with more info might chime in).
My assumption has always been that TiVo simply sends files via some kind of TCP client/server streaming. It doesn't take a complicate protocol to send a segmented file across a TCP network.
You should be able to play any file that you can point to using TiVo Desktop regardless of if it's located on a NAS, a SAN, an external HD or whatever. But you will need TiVo Desktop.
It does all of it's transfering via ethernet and not via Coax.
