Over the last week or so I've been getting about 25% of my recordings not working.

From Now Playing they look okay, the duration etc is correct but when I play there is a second or so of recording and then it ends.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what shows are affected - one will work, the next will fail.

Any ideas what's up?

Could be missing signal from your STB - Tivo starts to record but realizes the signal is missing and sort of aborts. Is Live TV OK? What are you recording from - Sky or Freeview, RF or scart? I had something similar when I had a dodgy connection from the sat dish into my sky stb - depended on the how wet and windy the weather was!

I'll check the connections. I'm on cable so unlikely to be the weather.

When I used to be with Sky if ever I lost the signal it would just record 30 minutes or whatever of "no signal" - it never just stopped recording.

In a false attempt at making them appear to be green some services - notably Sky - put their boxes into standby when 'common sense' dictate we're all supposed to be sleeping. This reduces their power consumption fractionally in most cases or more substantially in the case of the disk based recorders. Of course it also messes up all 3rd party attempts at recording programmes something which pay TV providers have no direct interest in doing I'm sure.

If recordings are randomly affected i.e. not just early hours but at any time then an alternative explanation is your Tivo disk may be in trouble - how old is it and have you upgraded it in the past?
If you have access to Tivoweb (or backdoors on) you can look at the logs and see if there are errors.
