Not enough space?????

I have a Series 2 80GB Tivo. Right now TiVoPlayList shows Total Disk Space of 60GB and 47.6 GB free. That's no problem.

Also on my TiVo Todo list I have approx 23GB recording time scheduled until this Thursday. That's adding up my programs scheduled programs and mutiplying them by .70GB for my hour programs.

I tried to schedule a Season Pass for a program that starts on Thursday but it says that I don't have enough space and that other things will be deleted.

How does Tivo calculate disk space? I should have enough to get that Season Pass program recorded and then watch and delete other programs so I stay ahead filing up.

I have numerous other programs that are scheduled through the Season Pass Mgr. Does Tivo look "down the line" and see that if I never deleted programs I would be full?

I'll guess that you have a lot of recordings set to "keep until I delete" When you use this, the Tivo assumes that it will never be deleted, so the space is not available for new recordings.

or

You record everything at best quality (maybe high quality) which will turn your 80hr tivo into 20 hour tivo (or 40 at high)

or

you're using both KUID and recording at best or high quality.

and

If you have an 80GB (80 hour) Tivo you have an 80GB hard drive, not 60GB. You may want to correct that setting on tivoplaylist. Unless of course that was a typo in your post.

Mick66,

Lot's of good info.

I do "Keep until I delete" and I do "Basic" quality so I guess the "Keep...." is causing my problem.

As for the TivoPlayList I tried in the past and did get it up to 60GB but haven't been able to get it past that.

I tried to record a bunch of stuff until I was maxed out and then got playlist to 60GB.

How do you suggest I get it seeing the correct capacity.

Thanks for the post.

You change the number in the "Total disk space" field and click "save"

This will give you a more accurate view of your Tivo hard drive, but of course it will not affect you space problem.

That's where mine says 60.1
Don't know how to change it. When I type in a new figure and hit "refresh" or "exit" it reverts back to 60.1

Yes. As long as you watch programs and then delete them before the space is needed then you won't have a problem.

you need to actually follow the instructions I gave you.

Sorry, I didn't see "Save". A picture is not worth a thousand words, the words are important also. That did it, thanks.
As the author of TiVoPlayList I don't recommend that you type in a large number for your 'Total Disk Space' because it can lead to a false sense of security where you might think you have more space free than you do.

I suggest you enter a 0 (zero) once as your disk size (and click [SAVE]). TiVoPlayList will always remember the largest amount of disk sapce that it detects and keep bumping up your total disk space to match. Over time, as your TiVo fills up and shows start dropping off, you will get a good indication of your available disk size.

thewolfe, the 60gb that you were seeing in TiVoPlayList may be more realistic than 80gb. I know that 80 Hour machines generally have 80gb hard drives in them, but the operating system and system files (including the 30-minute live buffer) take up room, so you may only have 60gb available for saving recordings. I would leave it at 60 and keep watching TiVoPlayList, you may see the number climb or it may stay at 60.

FYI, if you keep deleting shows and don't let the TiVo delete them itself, your machine may never fill up and you may never know how much space you really have.
