No Program Data - Sony SVR-2000

Help! Ever since I upgraded my Sony Tivo SVR-2000 with a new harddrive, the tivo will not download and install the program guide data. It dials in just fine. I have tried several local numbers to call. They all work fine to dial in, they even say they are downloading the data, but it stops at some point and never updates the data. I upgraded about a month ago. Everything else works fine. I noticed the problem 2 weeks after I upgraded. It gave me a message that said my program data was out of date and that I needed to make the data call. Normally this dials in automatically. Again, the dial in works fine. I can do a test call with no problem. Anyhow, I could not get it to work at all and my program data ran out. I ended up resetting the entire tivo and it then worked and retrieved the program data. Thats great, but I dont want to have to reset my tivo every 2 weeks to get the program data. Resetting takes 45 minutes or more.

Any ideas?

When you said you "reset" the TiVo, exactly what did you do?
Was it a reboot or restart?

What does the system information screen indicate?

I did a "system reset" and then "clear and delete everything."

Pictures of system info screen attached.

Thanks!

I would rerun Guided Setup. Probly no need to change anything, but I think your TiVo is confused and needs guidance. :)
I will try that again. I really have no choice. I just hope I dont have to run the guided setup every time my program data runs out (usually every 2wks.)
still not working. i am thinking the operating software on the replacement drive is not property setup. i am continually having to rerun guided setup every 2 weeks to get program data.
Your first post indicates you have a Sony SVR2000, yet the first photo shows "Philips". Did you image a Philips onto a Sony? I don't have standalone TiVos, but I think this may be your problem. You need a Sony image.
good question. i am not sure. i do have a sony svr 2000. i believe the phillips images came up after i upgraded. i dont remember what the image looked like before. i spoke with the company that i upgraded with (dvrupgrade.com) and they're trying to tell me it may be the modem. my reply to them is that i wasnt having this problem prior to the upgrade, plus i can still get the programming data if i redo the guided setup (ie my modem must still work.)

i assume that whatever operating system they loaded onto my upgraded harddrive must not be installed properly. maybe this has something to do with your phillips vs sony image. i am not sure.

i guess i will send the harddrive back to them. they say they will charge me a $75 restocking fee if they find its not the harddrive. i dont see how its NOT the harddrive.

thanks for your help. let me know if you (or anyone) thinks differently or has any other ideas.
one more thing. for some reason my old sony svr 2000 remote would not work once i upgraded either. pretty strange. i wonder if thats related to the sony vs phillips image as well.
You may have the wrong image. A Phillips is not a Sony and visa versa. It may be similar to attempting to install Windows Vista on a vintage Windows 98 PC. It may load but may not work to well. When I upgraded my hard drive several years ago the supplier wanted to know the manufacturer of my Series 1.

Your photos of the System Status screens give every indication that the TiVo operating system believes that the unit successfully downloaded the program data and indexing was successful, i.e. Last Status: SUCCEEDED
latest update. i emailed dvrupgrade.com and told them what you all said...that we thought it might be a phillips image on a sony tivo. they quickly said that would definitely have messed it up. they asked me to send it back in and they will fix it. to be fair to dvrupgrade.com, their customer service guys were quick and helpful. i would recommend them even though they kind of messed up on mine.

thanks to you all for helping me diagnose the problem. very impressive jimspence for noticing that from my pictures!!!
received and installed the replacement drive last night. this time it does say SONY on the system info screen. in addition, my old sony remote works and the phillips remote doesnt work like it did before. so far, so good. i will know for sure if everything is okay in 2 weeks when it should dial in automatically to retrieve the programming data. fingers are crossed, but i think everything will work fine.
I wouldn't wait a couple of weeks. Force a daily call now.
If you install the phillips image on a sony and then use a regular peanut remote it should work. Can't say anything about the guide data

You are mistaken. Whatever model TiVo you have, you need to put that model's image on the drive. You cannot put a Phillips image on a Sony or vice-versa.

You technically can, if it is the same architecture/board. It is just not a good idea WRT to guide data and that, as the OP found out.

Perhaps now that there are no S1 software upgrades, you can, but back in the old days, it was a big no-no.

Besides, I don't see the point -- why not just use a Sony image?

There is no reason not to. It is just, in the OPs case, they got sent a drive set up for a Philips TiVo, rather than the Sony they were supposed to.
folks. i am not trying to ruffle any feathers here, but some of you appear not to have read the posts from the top. let me summarize:

1. i purchased an upgraded harddrive for my sony svr 2000 tivo.
2. i was sent an harddrive with a phillips image on it versus the sony image.
3. the tivo worked, with the exception of my sony remote AND the system would not dial in automatically to retrieve the programming data. i had to re-run the guided setup every 2 weeks when i ran out of programming data. time consuming and kind of a pain.
4. the company sent me a new drive with the sony image on it. everything's working as it should.

case closed. short answer....your tivo will partially work with the improper image burned on to it. lets move on.
