So TiVo has announced that older models will no longer be able to get Netflix. Does anyone know whether that represents a technical difficulty or TiVo is just trying to force us to buy a new box in an unfair way?

First, Netflix controls which devices support their software, not the other way around.

Second, support was only removed for Premier models which are going on 15 years old.

Third, TiVo barely cares about selling retail hardware any more.

So, no, this isn’t a scheme by TiVo to annoy probably dozens of Premier owners who use Netflix on their box, to enrich themselves with a handful of Edge sales.

I generally agree. However, I did find one area where TiVo prevailed.

I was watching a nature live stream on YouTube. I liked to leave it on all day so when I entered the room it would be on. Roku and I think Chromecast would time out after a couple of hours. However, YouTube on TiVo stayed on all day and sometimes the next day also. (First world problems, hehe)

TiVo just removed all their remaining "new" boxes from their website four days ago on 10/1, so from this point on, anything new to you is already going to be used, like off eBay & such.
