I haven't seen anything anywhere but DTV is now back to being their own company. You've prob seen the new logo.

I called today to ask about NFLST and found this out. Probably means it'll be back to how DTV used to be.

you ATT

I know that AT&T tried to divest itself of DirecTV.

I didn't know that DirecTV is separate. I just went to the DirecTV.com website and it's still tied in with AT&T.

Here is where I originally read the story: AT&T and TPG to Launch 'New DIRECTV' Including DIRECTV, AT&T TV & U-verse | Cord Cutters News
We now know that the deal will give AT&T 70% equity in the business and TPG will own 30%. The transaction values the new company at $16.25 billion.
EDIT: And they are honoring all AT&T discounts as well.
"Once the transaction is completed, existing AT&T video subscribers will become New DIRECTV customers and will be able to keep their video service and any bundled wireless or broadband services, as well as HBO Max, plus any associated discounts," the announcement says.

(From the article you posted)

So AT&T paid $49B for DirecTV. It sold 30% of the new spin-off DirecTV for $1.8B.

Simple math says that DirecTV is worth $6B now. Just how did the value of DirecTV drop by 87.5% in 6+ years?

Even buying a house in Detroit during the bubble didn't drop this much. Even EBay's acquisition of Skype wasn't this bad.

You'd have to go back to the HP acquistion of Autonomy to be this bad.

Markets look at the future and this tells you that DTVs future was weighing down ATT. Not that it was a good deal to begin with. Its all about two way communication these days and DTV really could not compete in that market. There is also strong pressure from the cell companies with the 5g/6g future that may impede growth as well.

Let's if ATT can focus as they need to start expanding Fiber and/or high speed cell coverage. Spinning of media is the opposite of other companies so we will if that works or not. I expect more partnerships in that arena rather giving them flexibility to change.

I don't have access to the article you are referring to, but this one says they got 7.8B and they value the new company at 16.25B. AT&T spins out DirecTV as a $16B company, a quarter of what it paid in 2015
AT&T will net $7.8 billion as part of the pact.
"The transaction to separate AT&T's US video business into New DirecTV implies an enterprise value for the new company of $16.25 billion."

AT&T basically spun off DirecTV and their AT&T TV into a separate company that they still own 70% of. However, by doing this, the new company's performance is no longer directly reflected in AT&T's main accounting reports. Because linear TV services are a becoming a dying market, AT&T wanted to separate them from the main company's financials. In short, that's why this was done. It also allows easier transfer of their ownership interest of that company should they decide they don't want to own the new DirecTV anymore.

Remember, DirecTV was bought at a premium by AT&T so they could later acquire Warner Media, which of course, they successfully did.

Once AT&T bought it, I declared that I would never subscribe to DirecTV again.

Scottjf8, how did you contact DTV? What phone number did you use?

I used 1800-531-5000. I was routed to the AT&T number (the announcement said "AT&T"). I was then connected to a customer service rep in the Philippines.

How did you contact the DTV customer service agents directly?
