I haven't had a landline for my dtivo for about 45 days now.

First thing strange, my tivo service cuts off exactly at the 30 day mark without a call. Rebooting doesn't help activate the service again. I end up having to call directv to have them manually reactivate it.

Second thing strange, I notice my tivo now reboots at random. Is this connected to the dtivo not being able to make a call out? Directv said it was and that it would only get worse and to get one of their new units that aren't tivo's and they don't need daily calls.

Part of me thinks it is connected to it not being able to call out since I went into the dtivo's info after it rebooted and it said call succeeded! How can that be? It said failed - line unavailable before it rebooted! Is rebooting a way to clear it somehow?

I haven't read anything about this from other dtivo owners who cut their landlines. All I read about is a nagging message for the dtivo to make a call. I don't like a tivo thats unreliable since it rebooted when I wasn't home a few minutes before the season premier of Heros! I'm fortunate it started recording a few minutes into it after it rebooted.

Any idea's or workarounds?

thx

It's just a coincidence that you are having problems and you aren't connecting when attempting a call. My HR10-250 hasn't made a call in 431 days and my GXCEBOT hasn't made a call in 1,635 days. I have have the occaisional reboot but nothing that is increasing with the number of days without a call. All of my programs record reliably. If it does miss one, I can usually find the problem in the guide data from the network.

I confirmed this isn't a hardware issue, but a issue with my tivo not being able to make its daily call out.

Five minutes after the call fails, it reboots each and every time. Then I goto the tivo info screen, and it lists the call as succeeded and lists the next time the call is to be made. Five minutes after that call fails, it reboots again and the cycle repeats itself. Way to specific to be a coincidence or random around the same time I disconnected my phone line. I have to pay attention now and make sure the call time is not at a time I want something to be recorded...kinda a pain. At least I got to the root of the problem. I wonder why it's only my Samsung Dtivo that does this and no one else's? Of course, it would figure it had to be mine to do something like this. ;)

I was thinking of going to dvrupgrade and getting a new h/d with PTVnet to prevent automatic updates and give me networking capability...that would stop the rebooting at least.
