I've got a Roamio Pro feeding a Mini connected to an Onkyo AVR, a setup that has been mostly stable for years.

Lately I've noticed that I'm only getting stereo sound (no Dolby Digital Surround) on TV shows both live and recorded. I'm fairly certain I've received DD on many shows in the past, though I can't peg an exact date when it changed.

I did upgrade to a newer Mini VOX recently, but I reinstalled the older Mini to test and it exhibits the same behavior.

Can anyone on Charter (ahem Spectrum) verify that they are - or are not - getting DD? I'm not sure if Charter changed something, or Tivo, or what. I verified that the audio output is set to Dolby (not PCM) on the Minis.

I get Dolby Digital, DD+, DTS, etc just fine on other inputs to the AVR.

Thanks!

Where are you located, many Charter systems were purchased and equipment varies. I get DD on most channels but not channel 1733 music in NE GA. I have a recent LV OLED and a old Onkyo that is connected via optical.

Are you receiving DD 2.0 or PCM 2.0?

I believe you can see in diagnostics what the available Audio formats are and what the last chosen one is for all the currently tuned tuners. All of my currently tuned ones say there are 2 AC3 audio streams available, so I don't know that it would say if its not.

I agree. Like the Info button shows what resolution is received, the Diagnostics show what is received. I have a Mini A93 in my kitchen hooked to a small LG. All my channels are DD (AC3), but only PCM is sent to the TV since the tv doesn't support DD. Almost all my channels are DD 5.1. Most of Comedy Central and CW are DD 2.0 and CNN is DD EX. This from the AVR from a Roamio. Even my cable company's message channel is DD 2.0.

I don't have any TV channels that are not DD, but most streaming services are PCM. I can't tell what the Diagnostics will say on a non-DD channel.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in STL, Charter's home market. Fairly sure I got DD/AC3 on most of the HD (700-900 here) channels in the past.

I'm not sure with respect to DD 2.0 vs PCM 2.0. How does one get to the Diagnostics screen? Quick searching isn't turning up anything relevant.

Help, Account & System Info, Diagnostics. Each tuner has a block, followed by cable card & TA. AC3 is DD.

Try a different cable? Just a guess. Honestly, I don't know why the Mini I use fails with DD since the TV specs say it has two speakers and can do DD. But I only use it during breakfast.

This is resolved - the problem was with the AVR. Swapping inputs fixed the issue. Not sure why; there is no related config in the AVR for audio settings on the HDMI inputs.

Interestingly, the problem followed the logical input assignment rather than the physical port (ie, the Cable/Satellite input was blocking AC3 regardless which physical HDMI port it was mapped to).

Thanks for all your thoughts and input!
