Does it have a visa/mastercard logo on it? If not you can get a prepaid credit card.ajwees41 said:Will Tivo take payment using a check card?
I think it does. If it is a Visa or Mastercard check card Tivo should take it right?aadam101 said:Does it have a visa/mastercard logo on it? If not you can get a prepaid credit card.
If I buy it from Bestbuy can I use the card to pay Tivo the monthly price for a 3 year plan or must I prepay for the three years?bpurcell said:There is no problem with check cards with Visa or Mastercard on them. Just like any other retail store, they'll treat it like a credit card.
You can save money by staying with the cable co DVR.ajwees41 said:I am just trying to see iff I can save money
The Cable dvr is $14.90 a month vs Tivo at $12.95 a month. for a 3 year contractmick66 said:You can save money by staying with the cable co DVR.
Or have tivo's rates dropped?

Works out to be about $8.31/month for Tivo if you prepay 3 years.ajwees41 said:The Cable dvr is $14.90 a month vs Tivo at $12.95 a month. for a 3 year contract
Moyekj If I were to buy it from bestBuy I could then prepay for the 3 years when I activate the tivo on the internet is that right?moyekj said:Works out to be about $8.31/month for Tivo if you prepay 3 years.

ajwees41 said:In my opinion Tivo costs more for a service which I can get from my cable company for the cost to rent a Motorola 6412 Dual Tuner for $14.90(box rental and service) vs the cost of the tivo service from $12.95-$16.95/month plus the renatal of a digital box at $4.75 from the cable cmpany.
Tivo has good points, but until they can provide cheaper rates the cable dvrs are the only option for people on a budget.

That 's before the motrola started acting up and they now released the TivoHD whitch is alot cheaper then the S3 that i was asking about before.mick66 said:10/28/06
Yes, you can buy a TiVo box from any retailer, and then activate the box on tivo.com, and at that time you can choose the service fee option you want... 1, 2 or 3-yr monthly or prepay... as has been noted, the 3-yr prepay is the cheapest, but you can choose the 3-yr monthly plan if you can't afford the prepay.ajwees41 said:Moyekj If I were to buy it from bestBuy I could then prepay for the 3 years when I activate the tivo on the internet is that right?
So while none of the costs have changed, Tivo now costs less money every month than the cable co dvr because the cable co dvr is crappy. Being crappy cost extra money. OK Gotcha.ajwees41 said:That 's before the motrola started acting up and they now released the TivoHD whitch is alot cheaper then the S3 that i was asking about before.
I find that very hard to believe considering the number of months you spent discussing the the S3 and your interest in getting an S3 before you posted that statement.I wasn't even look at the S3 before I was looking at the cost. I priced the SATivo and a cox digital box.
I never said I was looking at S3 before, but know I am looking at the cheaper TivoHD version.mick66 said:So while none of the costs have changed, Tivo now costs less money every month than the cable co dvr because the cable co dvr is crappy. Being crappy cost extra money. OK Gotcha.

But I guess that as long as you can fool yourself, that's all that matters, right?
He didn't even read my whole post. I was pricing a Standalone Tivo with an Cable provided digital box.mchips said:Mick, what does it even fricking matter?
Get off his case... he wants a TiVo, let the guy get a TiVo without giving him the third degree... you've been in quite a funk of bi*chy mood lately...
ajwees41, don't take it personal... he's like this, and worse, with a lot of people.
You can check out this recent thread of his if you want to see what I mean:

Yes, that's exactly what I did for my 1st S3. Also if you then are thinking of another unit (since MRV/TTG will be enabled in November) you can buy a 2nd unit and commit to 3 years monthly and pay $6.95/month under MSD program for the 2nd unit. Right now with $200 mail in rebate the S3 is only $100 more than the THD so is also worth considering for it's larger internal drive & front panel (and it works with kickstart code if you plan to add external esata drive). (Others tout the glo remote as a $50 value a lot as well though personally I don't think that's a big deal since I use universal remotes anyway).ajwees41 said:Moyekj If I were to buy it from bestBuy I could then prepay for the 3 years when I activate the tivo on the internet is that right?
Does the S3 got the video mosaic chinnels? The ones that show 6 channels at a time?moyekj said:Yes, that's exactly what I did for my 1st S3. Nope. The mosaics are based on software uploaded to the cable company boxes and rely on 2-way communications to function.ajwees41 said:Does the S3 got the video mosaic chinnels? The ones that show 6 channels at a time?
