No clear path from peanut remote to TiVo HD

Hello,

I wanted to ask advice for a problem I'll be having. Don't ask me why, but I have installed 3 16 inch wide cabinets at the top of my entertainment nook, and have a projection TV with speakers on bottom (61 inch RCA) that occupies the entire space underneath with maybe an inch clearance to the sides, nearly flush above. My current components are all less than 16 inches wide, but the new TiVo HD is 16.5" and won't fit nice. Mounting it behind tv and underneath cabinets won't leave free path from where I'll be using remote. The current peanut remote I use with DirecTV R10 seems to need free path. I have the following questions:

1-any sense whether this remote might be more penetrable? and kind of remote booster or alternate universal remote that might be more useful here?

2-I could stand the TiVo on it's side on the floor next to TV which will leave free path with one inch space between nook wall and TV. Would it be bad for the TiVo to be operated on it's side long term?

3-Finally any other creative ideas on how to handle this situation, besides ripping out and replacing cabinets and placing the TiVo in a somewhat aesthetic manner?

Thanks for your help.

Try one of these. It worked great for me when I had a TiVo in a cabinet.
Thanks for the tip. This motivated me to call Radio Shack that carries an RF
remote extender for $39.99, and I can pick it up personally rather than mess with shipping. Any thoughts comparing the two products:

I looked at the Radio Shack one. The reason I picked the other one was because the transmitter goes inside the TiVo remote, so you see no equipment at all in the room. Also, you don't have to point the remote at anything in particular, since it basically turns it into an RF remote. The base also charges the little internal battery (comes with two) so you don't need to worry about replacing that. Actually, I don't remember swapping batteries more than two times in the the 18 months I've owned it.
Radio Shack has sold this device for many years. At least 20 and while the outside case has changed shape a few times the innerds are mostly the same and more importantly all compatible with each other. They are actually built by X10 for RadioShack. Anyway. I have a pair of very old ones and a couple of the new transmitters and they all work together great. We use our Tivo from 3 different TVs, none of which have a direct line of sight with the tivo box or any other equipment in our HT equipment rack.
You can also pick up the Xantech IR repeater stuff too. I use it, the sensor is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and sits on top of my TV and it's wired to some IR blasters inside the cabinet. with a little care it is very unobtrusive and works great.
Thanks for all the advice. The Radio Shack model looks promising.

I know this is an old thread, but after doing a lot of research, the Next Generation Remote Control Extender from Amazon seems to be the best solution at the best price:

Under $40 with free shipping. Lots of comments from TiVo owners saying how great this thing works.

Same as the unit Arcady mentioned as being sold by Weaknees. Your price is lower, if you search you might find it for a little less. Buy.com had it for $34 shipped earlier this year.
My Hotlink Pro has worked flawlessly for years. Tivo, DVD player, VCR (!), receiver, etc. all hidden in a cabinet. AC powered, nothing to recharge.
