Probably the audio de-mux in the tuner. Or the audio input on the board if you are using composite inputs. Not much you can do about that.

I have a 6+ year old Series 1 unit, lifetime - that suddenly stopped recording any audio.
I've switched cables, experimented with connecting different sources, to no avail.
Anything recorded before that "day" still plays audio fine, and the TiVo "sounds" all play...just nothing new. Even "live" TV. No audio.
Anyone have any experience with that?
