Hi everybody !,
I'm very new to tivo , never mind hacking it.
I have a couple questions, and i have done some searching so hopefully I wont get smacked down right outa the gate..LOL

I have 3 tivo's 2 older series 2's and a newer one I bought at biglots after i heard about it on this forum. Not bad for 69 bucks!
I performed the minmfs copy and expand function on one of the older series 2 units and perfomed the same function on the dual tuner system from biglots on the virgin drive.

So my questions are, which is the better unit to have "service" on ?
Where do I get the prom needed for the new box? I can have the guys at work do the socket mod for me. They have all the tools to repair SMT boards.
I'm about to swapp (activate) the new dual tuner unit in place of the older series 2 .
Also is there a thread that explains how to perform the hacks to a linux dummie?
Does Tive frown on switching tivos out frequently ?

I subscribed both units to the tivo service. I like the dual tuner one better so far. it seems to be faster or it might be just me.
I was under the impression that the new box wouldn't allow even the expansion of the HDD? I upgraded it to the 500gig drive from bestbuy for $99.

But I still am kinda numb on the rom change for the new s2 box.. is there an actual step by step on how to do the hack ? I asked the guys here and they can remove the chip with out issue or damage in any way and socket it.I belive we have the programer module also to flash the new code. Is there a bin file to dl somewhere?

Don't bother hacking the DT, hacks are not really needed on Series 2s, unless you really insist.

All TiVos can have their drives upgraded.

I have only my one working Series 2 hacked, to make it work in "Frankentivo" mode.

As for a hacked PROM you should look at at "other" place for that.

Thanks for the info, just curious. I have read many of the "stickies" and was a bit confused by a few saying they DT 2s couldn't even be expanded without the hack..
