I've currently got Ziply Fiber for TV, broadband, and phone. They are a new service provider who bought out the Pacific Northwest Fios territory from Frontier Communications. I've decided I want to move TV service to Xfinity but keep Ziply for broadband and phone. As soon as Ziply took over they raised prices because they really aren't interested in providing cable TV service anyway.

I've got 3 TVs in different rooms in the house. I plan on getting Edge for Cable and I just bought a pair of Mini Voxes on sale. The house currently has all 3 TVs connected together via the Frontier coax network. I assume Xfinity will install their own coax cable to my living room from the stret for my Edge DVR. I'd like to connect the other two Mini's with MoCA adapters by using the already existing Frontier coax lines. To do this I'm assuming I would run the Xfinity coax line from the coax wall plate into the Edge, then run an Ethernet cable from the Edge to a MoCA adapter and run a coax from the MoCA adapter to the Frontier coax wall plate.

I could order equipment, order Xfinity service then figure out how to connect the Mini's but thought I'd raise this issue up front in case it matters.

Is my idea for connecting the DVR to the Mini's by using the former service providers coax network sound or in some way flawed?

Does my Edge DVR need a separate internet signal to load the channel menu content or does that already come through the Xfinity coax? If internet will it just pull that in via wifi?

What am I not thinking of, if anything?

The Edge and Mini's have MoCA cabability built in, so you shouldn't need any MoCA adapters.

I would suggest having Xfinity connect onto your existing coax, feeding into a 3-way splitter that has coax output going to the Edge and Minis. Add a MoCA PoE filter to the input of the splitter, and connect the Xfinity coax to the PoE filter. Connect Ziply only to the modem, then run an ethernet cable from your router to the Edge, if possible. Whatever you do, never mix signals from Ziply and Xfinity on the same section(s) of coax.

My router is nowhere near where the Edge will be. However I've got mesh wifi and can connect ethernet from a mesh port to the DVR. What is the ethernet to the Edge used for?

Ethernet is used to download guide information, perform software updates, support streaming apps and a bunch of stuff. The Edge won't work well without a good internet connection.
