Start, Decades, H+I and others just got added. Is Comcast home screw us on these? Cuz it's been two days and "channel not available". These are ota channels people. Why are they not part of my Qam package? Did Comcast have to give me another reason to hate them??

What's your market? And did they add them as HD or SD? In most regions, the QAM is basically frozen - no new anything is getting added. Locals will stay if they change affiliation (from one sub-channel network to another) but we haven't had a "new" add sub-channel in awhile.

If these are additional subchannels of existing transmitters, or out-of-market channels (rather than the primary subchannel of new transmitter (which is extremely unlikely)) Comcast has been quite clear that new(er) channels are highly likely to be added as IP-only [Only the primary subchannel of an OTA transmitter in the DMA gets any special dispensation under the existing regulations]. If the bill that announced these new channels used wording such as X1 or IP equipment required (it is in the small print of the bill) than that was Comcast's explicit statement that your TiVo will not be getting these channels. Your option(s) are to move to an X1 STB, use a streaming solution (such as a Roku or (some) TV apps), view the channels on your mobile app via the Stream app, put up your own OTA antenna for your TV, or do without.

As discussed here many times, TiVo may be a good DVR, but on Comcast it no longer offers access to all the channels in your lineup, and that list of channels that are not available to you is only going to expand (every month or so another set of channels gets added or moved to IP only). Plan accordingly.

You guys are correct. The sad thing is the customer service representative at Xfinity had no idea when I told her I had a TiVo and the channels are listed as "channel not available". I actually had to hang up on her when she kept trying to send a signal to my box!!! MeTV and HandI are stations I would watch. Maybe I will use the app more. I forgot the term IPTV . I kept saying "the internet channels". I must have sounded like an idiot.

Not really surprising, as CableCARD users are now somewhat less than 1% of the total customer base(*). The scripts that reps follow to fix channel issues are intended for the 99%, not the outlier(s). Anything more complex may result in a truck roll if you continue to have issues. And while there may have been a notice sent to the reps about IP channels at some point a long time ago when it was first a thing, and it might be in the training binder(**) of hundreds of details about all Comcast offerings, few reps are going to remember something that they in practice never need to deal with.

(*) And as mentioned elsewhere, that number continues to drop.

(**) Yes, it is all electronic now.

Does that even include build in cable cards in cable boxes?
The number(s) were from the data that the operators provided to the FCC of issued CableCARDs (how many were still in actual use is unknown, but it is presumed most). As with all such numbers, they are trailing (what was, not what is), and the FCC has cancelled the order that requires reports to be submitted, so we really will be working off of data that will loose accuracy rather fast with the TV subscriber losses that are being reported by all operators.

In practice, there are certainly a fair number of operators that still have boxes which have CableCARDs inside (as someone else mentioned somewhere, there are still people using (and returning) classic STBs across all the providers). However, to the point of the 99%, the boxes that may use a CableCARD are provisioned and managed substantially differently by the CSRs than those CableCARDs issued to customer for use in their OCUR/UDCP devices.

While were at it. Xfinity just removed Cartoon Network to another package. How can they just remove stuff that existed at the time i signed a contract? Can they move the bulk of my channels to "digital bingbang" and just say "tough nuts..pay up or shut up".

They can, as it is part of the (very) fine print in the full contract (which essentially says that programming may change). However, for material changes (and Comcast tends to be a bit liberal in what a material change is, to your advantage) you can terminate your contract without any contract ETF penalty for 30 days or so, so if you don't like the current offering now that programming tiers have changed, contact Comcast and terminate your existing contract.

Comcast exec called me and pointed out I had a real good deal wit $80 200mb internet and tv. Total is $130 with fees and "sports and entertainment". Will go up $10 with having to pay for the Cartoon Network.

That phrase (or something to that effect) is usually included as an asterisk on any bill/notice that includes a programming change that might take away a channel. Although in reality it amounts to "If you feel these changes in violation of our contract you are more than welcome to consider the option of a $3 refund this month, after which we can discontinue your service and you can go pound sand". I distinctly remember it on the bill that moved the Cartoon Network. I don't think it has appeared on bills that just say "We're adding new channels, that you can't get, tough noogies".

i had to go back and read my bill about the Cartoon Network change. I couldn't find the notice, because it was buried below the standard legalese at the bottom, in fine print that matched all the other legalese. It was hardly a notification. I grrrrrred loudly. And I cannot find anything which tells me how much the next tier would cost me, but my guess is that it would be more than I want to pay.

Looks like Cartoon Network is now in the top-tier Preferred package around here. (My market has the Simple & Easy pricing/plan system, with the main packages being Basic, Extra and Preferred.) And TCM got moved out from any of the main packages awhile ago and put into the optional More Sports & Entertainment add-on pack.

Both Cartoon Network and TCM are owned by WarnerMedia. Given that much (though not all) of those channels' content is now available on-demand in HBO Max, I wonder if WarnerMedia and/or Comcast is intentionally shifting them outside of the mainstream Extra package.

It is always more than you want to pay. If you want the "rack rate" difference you can go to Local services and pricing (you may need to login) and note the difference between your current TV package and the step up they stated in the legalese (if you are on a legacy plan which no longer exists it can be somewhat difficult to compare the rates). However, it is reportedly not unusual that if you contact Comcast and discuss the removal of the Cartoon network they may offer a better deal than the rack rate difference (at least for a year).

While all the carriage agreements are under NDA, so we are just guessing, WarnerMedia has reportedly increased their carriage rates (presumably to pay down the debt from the AT&T purchase) which has resulted in some providers removing WarnerMedia content entirely, and others moving some channels into different tiers, and yet others using the WarnerMedia rate increase to partially justify their own subscriber rate increase.

Entirely? Only provider I'm aware of that's done that is little FuboTV, a streaming cable TV service. I suspect that any mainstream cable operator who eliminated CNN, TBS, TNT and HBO from their line-up would see their customer base plummet.

bless you for that Comcast info, thank you thankyouthankyou. I wish i had seen it earlier (as we missed 2 weeks of Toonami), but i squeezed in before the deal expired. And i found out that the extra $10/month rate is not quite a 50% discount, as the regular rate difference for the preferred tier is $18/month over digital basic. The person helping me even had it activated before I hung up the phone!
