New to Spectrum + TiVo

I’m a long-standing TiVo fanatic but we moved to an area that unsure if my TiVo will work.

I have a buddy that lives here and he has a silicon dust cable card box with tuning adapter on Spectrum. He uses it with his Plex box. He is telling me that Spectrum flags all the channels except locals as DRM so he can only record about 7 channels.

Will the same thing happen if I do this with my TiVo? I’m also wanting to be able to download shows off line to the TiVo App. Will I be able to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

You will be able to record all the channels except VOD. You will NOT be able to download recorded videos to a computer over your home network. I'm surprised that your buddy can't at least record one local copy.

If HBO, Showtime or Epix premium channels are in your Spectrum package, there are apps for the Fire TV that let you view essentially all of their VOD, whenever you choose. I use these and they work great.
The typical cable box has a cable card with tuning adapter integrated into a single shell. The Tivo would use the cable card and tuning adapter, not integrated together, but the card goes into a cable card slot in the Tivo to record 4-6 channels, the tuning adapter goes into the USB port for access to SDV channels. (Switched Digital Video) which the Tivo would record as MPEG4.

Super helpful! So, theoretically I would be able to use the official TiVo app on my phone and download shows for offline viewing.

Really appreciate it!
I have TIVO with Spectrum and can record every channel I've tried - as said you can't do anything with OD
