I am on the verge of purchasing a Panasonic TH-50PX60U 50" plasma. I am also a long time DirecTv and Tivo user. I have two HDVR2s which I like very much. I am also a Comcast customer (for cable modem) and would consider switching to Comcast if it was a widely held opinion that Comcast was better. In any event, it appears that best option is to pickup a HR20 to use with the HD tv.
I'm not 100% sure this TV is the best option, though for $1700 it appears to be a good buy. I've read quite a bit here... it appears most people don't like the HR20 as much as the old DTivos, but some think it is good enough.
I saw on DirecTv.com that I need a 5 LNB dish to receive all future HD programming. Will an HR20 be able to receive the mpeg4 stream? Do I need a 5 LNB dish to get current HD programming? Does DirecTv lease or sell HR20s? What am I likely to get from DirecTv? Is there a chance I could get the 5 LNB dish and HR20 for free?
Any comments? Thanks so much,
Chris
