I'm looking at a new, Sony TV which is Android based, apps, etc.

I read from a disgruntled user that the Sony remote was Bluetooth based, so universal remotes such as a TiVo remote would not work.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? I'd be amazed if Sony were that stupid.

However, this is the only info from Sony's site I could find, and it points to IR not being supported:

I have not seen any evidence of this. Even Sonys that may come with a bluetooth remote still have an IR receiver and still work with the same IR codes they used 30 years ago.

More proof:
- Look up your model here and you'll see that it's still compatible with IR remotes: Device Compatibility
- See the JP1 IR codes for your model TV: JP1 Remotes :: File Section (must log in to actually download)
- See the pronto hex IR codes for your TV from a database lookup on the Global Cache site: Global Caché Control Tower

I have proven many disgruntled Sony TV users wrong on this forum over the past few years. The last one had his sound bar blocking the IR window on the TV.

Are you having issues?

I have several Logitech's and a Harmony Hub, but so far haven't been able to make an Amazon Firestick work, as it's Bluetooth. What Logitech's are you using?
Do not recall the model number, but I have two different Harmony remotes with hub and they both work with an Firestick and an TiVo 4k Streamer. It is a pain to find the menu option to get the remote to pair with the streamer, but I found it and it does work very well. A google search is your best bet. I do not recall of the top of my head....

I have two Sony TVs from the 2020 lineup, an x800h any an x900h. Both work with TiVo remotes with no problem. I can also use the TV remote to operate the TiVo.

If I recall correctly, after plugging in the TiVo, a notification came up on the TV asking if I wanted to setup the device. After doing so, I was surprised to see the TV remote would then operate the Roamio.

The big drawback for me is there was no physical mapping of the 6-second rewind or the 30-second skip. The multi-button sequence required to get those functions made it unattractive to me. So I generally still use the TiVo remote when watching TiVo.

It's been a while since I've messed with it, so I don't remember what else does or doesn't work.

Neither can. Sony sets up my tivo bolt but DVR and CC buttons do nothing.
Logitech sends signal to TV and not Tivo.
Problem lies in Logitech not knowing to switch signal to Tivo when using the Sony tv app. There seemed to be no way for it to know I had to set up a different logitech activity to watch tv.

Without the dvr button I find myself not using the smart tv features at all.
I also have a logitech harmony device that cannot work the Android features for tv. Too bad Sony can't get it right.
What functionality are you expecting with the DVR button on the Sony remote? There isn't an equivalent on the TiVo remote, unless you are expecting it to be like pushing the TiVo button. In which case Display on the Sony remote brings up a menu on DVR controls. Selecting Home on that list is the equivalent.

Computers (Harmony is one) do exactly what you program them to do. It can't read your mind. Your Sony isn't even programmable, so how on earth is it going to control every function of multiple devices? Did you program your Harmony to send the appropriate commands to your TV and Tivo? My Harmony works just fine with a Sony TV and a Tivo.

And there is no way the Harmony knows that the Sony is in the TV app. But the simple solution is to just program the additional Tivo commands to other buttons or the onscreen display buttons (if your Harmony has them). You can associate any remote's commands to any button in a Harmony.
