New router - Can't connect to Tivo!

2599 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  HomeUser
I have a new Linksys router, Tivo Premier and the Tivo USB adapter. My Tivo and USB adapter is not new. I have had it for a while and worked fine on the old router. I can't connect to Tivo and now when I go to the Tivo menu on the TV I can't get into any of the settings. It shows I do not have an internet connection and goes back to "My Shows" when I try to go to any of the pages. Can anyone help me or suggest settings on my router?

You can not enter settings at all, even with the wireless USB adapter removed?
What is the model of the Linksys router? What did you have before?
If you can get to network setting is there an IP address?
more information about your home network might be useful.
Does the router see the tivo? Has it assigned it an IP address (assuming dynamic addressing)?

I have a Linksys E1200 router. Before I had a Linksys SRX400 and everything worked fine with it. I disconnected the USB adapter and restarted the Tivo and still can't get into the settings. I talked with AT&T & Linksys customer support to get my internet connection working. My network doesn't recognize the Tivo or the UBS adapter.
Instead of changing the Tivo's network settings, you could set the routers SSID and password to match what your old router's settings were and what the Tivo is already set up for. That's what I do when I get a different router.
Switch to the SD menus How do I switch between TiVo with SD and TiVo with HD menus? There is a short cut if you can not get into the settings menu press Thumbs Down, Thumbs Up, Pause, Pause Now you should be able to access and change the network settings.
Is the new router an N wireless? If so, you need to have G enabled with 2.4 Ghz, may be listed as "mixed" mode.

Oh thank you, thank you!! It worked!! You just saved me from going crazy! I was missing my Tivo and wasn't wanting to call customer service and be on the phone forever. :)

Happy that I could help.

I am currently looking to replace my wireless setup. Now that you have been running the new Linksys E1200 how do you like it? what kind of throughput are you getting with the Premier (settings & messages -> Settings -> network & Phone -> network diagnostics -> Transfer history) ?

The linksys works great. I don't really know about the transfer history you mentioned. I don't use that or know what it means. Sorry I only use my Tivo to record.
Transfer history would show the speed of the different connections if you used Multi-Room Viewing or one of the online services like Yahoo, Netflix ...
