Some people have reported getting dead-in-the-water refurbs, but if you are happy with them there is no real reason to get a new one.
I guess I have just been lucky. Of course I have only been a TiVo user for going on 4 years. I see a lot of other people have gotten a lot more life out of their boxes than I have so far. Some people have reported getting dead-in-the-water refurbs, but if you are happy with them there is no real reason to get a new one.

ALL units purchased directly from TiVo are shipped already activated.Other than they already come activated from TiVo, and in a brown box instead of a full color box: What are the advantages of buying a new one instead of a re-certified TiVo?
If it weren't for new units dying, there wouldn't be refurbsSome people have reported setting dead-in-the-water NEW UNITs....
That is so not true, so you can stop patting yourself on the back for being so clever. If it weren't for new units dying, there wouldn't be refurbs![]()
I have a strong feeling that TiVo has been blowing out unsellable brand new Premieres on Woot as "refurbished" models. Plus there probably have been a considerable number of TiVos returned as open box items when people discovered that their $99 box required a $19.99 month subscription. If it weren't for new units dying, there wouldn't be refurbs![]()
