Hi all,

Installing my Bolt. My setup is to run everything through an AV receiver. I got a new cable that is supposed to be for 4K but I don't have a 4K TV. Pulling the receiver from the cabinet to install the cable that came with my Bolt is a royal pain. And I guess it wouldn't matter unless I replaced the cable from the receiver to the TV.

As I see it, if there wait till I get a 4K TV and then worry about it. Am I missing something? Not sure if I have 1.4 or 2.0 HDMI Cable.

If you do not have a 4K TV, just about any HDMI cable is fine. If you have a picture, I wouldn't worry about it.

The one area that some people have problems with is from the vile HDMI copy protection garbage that the greedy AV industry players have screwed us all with - TiVo HDMI implementation seems to be more problematic than many other products, and sometimes a failed HDMI handshake can stop the TiVo from outputing any HD signal on the HDMI cable because they assume you are a thief trying to make HD copies of their precious signals. If you run into problems like that, the best option is usually to try different cables. But like I said above, if you currently have a 1080 signal on your TV, all is fine.

If the Bolt was set to 1080p would the handshake issue be solved? Occasionally my Bolt does not play nice with my TCL Roku 4k.

No. The disgusting turds that designed the HDMI copy protection software KNOW you are a thief if there is any problem at all with the HDMI negotiation, so they prevent any HD output at all. When that happens, HDMI is SUPPOSED to switch to 480i so that you can still watch your video with crappy resolution that you won't want to steal. But all the TiVos I have tested just completely shut off the video output unless the TiVo itself is set to fixed 480i output resolution. Note that these companies brand you as guilty, even when the problem is theirs!

There have even been several well-publicized instances where the Amazon and Netflix apps were doing this, even when the TiVo was playing recorded content without problems. I worked with TiVo engineers to identify and have this fixed once before, and that proved it was a software issue, not a hardware handshake problem.
