Found a fairly recent R7000 router at a flea market.
As I normally do after seeing that it works, is to update firmware to the most recent version.

However...

I noticed this line of text in the release notes of a certain version (9.88):

"Removes the following features: iTunes Server, Downloader, Time Machine, Kwilt, TiVo, and DLNA"

Anyone know what exactly that TiVo reference is for, aka what cool feature I didn't know existed will I lose with this update. lol.
Or is it something that's not super-useful.

TiVo's in the house are Premiere's, Roamio, Bolts and a Mini

Thanks

My assumption would be something along the lines of TiVo Desktop, the ability of the router to serve up video content from a USB storage device to a networked TiVo.

I believe some past discussion of the capability can be found here: Netgear router extended storage
Thanks for that link. 10-year-past tech I guess? Now that we have external NAS and huge, external drives, I guess the USB DLNA storage is an outdated concept. Still, I‘ll never quite understand why firmware ‘updates’ delete features, as opposed to just adding features….

It could be a case of adding new features required eliminating some lesser-used features. Given strapped resources, the firmware can’t offer an endlessly growing feature set.
I would also say that there's a good possibility there was a security vulnerability in the code library that the Tivo and DLNA shared and it wasn't worth the time to redo it, so they deleted it for safety.
I say this because the Tivo Backup code in the ReadyNAS line is part of the DLNA package.
