Netflix - still takes two time to start a movie

Does everyone else have this issue? 90% of the time, I'll click on a Netflix movie or show in my queue, click Play, it'll buffer and show the bar, then black screen.

I have to go back, do it again, and then it'll start. I hope mine is not the only one that does this. I have a Premiere XL

I have a regular Premiere with a 2tb drive. I do not have this issue.

I did have a problem with one of my queue items not showing all the shows available. That was resolved with a reboot and was probably caused by a network error of some kind. This only happened once.
I use my XBox 360 for Netflix, because it just sucks on Tivo.
Yes I have this issue. The stream starts paused it seems, but all I have to do to start the stream is press the play button or the instant replay button. Have you tried these?

When netflix on the 360 is integrated into my guide or search i'll agree. Until then they work about the same with the 360 having a prettier looking interface with the box art. I still have to use a pc for real queue management, can't add dvd's from either and the listings for the instant viewing are still a pia to search for on the 360. I can search with the HD interface just like i can on the 360. Sure if it shows up in the few categories that happen to be displayed on the xbox i can surf those but if you really want to search and browse for shows the pc > all.

Don't get me wrong the interface needs a lot of work on the tivo, its just text with menus. That said its not so different functionally that I have to watch netflix on my 360. In fact i tend to prefer the tivo simply because its one less box to put on, input to change or remote / controller to get.

Love the interface on the PS3 and I don't have to use a PC just to add titles to my queue!

Yep, I've experienced that as well. I think on both my Series 3 and Premiere. I don't use Netflix on my Series 3 much (if ever) anymore.

I'm not sure why you decided to participate in this thread then. Your comment contributes absolutely nothing to the topic.
Yes. Mine just started doing this as well. It happens almost every time I play a movie.
Mine does this as well sometimes but I've learned to live with it. What drives me crazy is when the Tivo crashes and reboots because the network connection was dropped.

I had the issue for a few titles a month or so ago but haven't seen it since. In fact today I went through a marathon of 9 MI5 episodes through my TiVo Premiere and they all were flawless the whole way through - no troubles starting any of them either. As much as TiVo Netflix gets ragged on (by me included) I must say in many instances playback performs flawlessly for me. Guess I have been lucky not to have dropped network connections for a while either - kudos to Cox broadband for that.
Just a thought.

Boxee Box users were reporting having issues with Netfilx. Buffering, ect. A few users report that they fixed their problem by switching internet DNS servers. They switched from their ISP DNS servers to free alternatives.

I know, two different hardware/software platforms. Most likely different issues.

But trying different DNS servers couldn't hurt.

Two free DNS servers you could try are:

OpenDNS

http://www.opendns.com/

Open DNS Servers:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Google DNS

http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Google DNS Servers:

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

I don't use Open DNS(It blocks me from receiving email from one of my Domains)
but I do use a DNS server from UltraDNS-2(156.154.71.1) as my primary and one from Google(8.8.4.4) as my secondary.

My streaming shows/movies from Netflix always start in a few seconds now. When I was using the FiOS DNS servers it would take 10 to 15 seconds for them to start.

I used NameBench( http://code.google.com/p/namebench/) to figure out the best DNS servers for me to use at my location. It did make a big difference.

Namebench will run a series of tests that will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. When finished it will give you a list of DNS IP addresses and the percent increase in speed over your current DNS servers for each one on the list.

The ones I am currently using were listed as being around 300% faster than the FiOS DNS servers I was using. It has made a very noticeable difference for Netflix, VUDU,etc, even just web browsing.

Yep, I've always had this issue too. I've kind of gotten used to it.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the advice - I already use OpenDNS on my router and all devices, for years :)
I haven't used Netflix on the TIVO in a while but did this past weekend. Out of the ten or so movies I watched only 1 or 2 started on the first try. All the others took 2 tries. It's been a while since I used the Netflix interface but I never had this problem in the past.

For me it started with the 14.8 update. As usual, Tivo has managed to create and even worse product than they started with.
How does the Netflix look on Tivo compared to the Wii? I probably won't do HD.

For HD I prefer Tivo. Everytime I use Netflix on the Wii it looks grainy. I have to wonder if it's my wireless connection in that part of the house though.

The biggest downside to Netflix on the Tivo, is the app. It's just a queue. You can't easily browse movies from the Tivo. You either need to go to your computer or use an iPad/smartphone.
I just wanted to chime in that I also experience this issue. I would say it occurs with one out of three videos I view; maybe one out of two.

I really doubt it's a network issue. It seemed like it started after the 14.8 update.

I also noticed something really strange. If I leave it on that black screen a few minutes and then it the rewind button the video preview window shows that it is 2 or 3 minutes into the video and starts rewinding from there.

Still no issues here since changing my DNS server IP addresses. The Netflix streaming titles always start quickly for me.
