nero vision/tivotogo problem

1140 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  greg_burns
So I downloaded a show from my Tivo 2, using the free TivoToGo. Then I tried using a free trial of Nero Vision to burn it to DVD, which it did.

Unfortunately when I try to play back the DVD, only the top half of the screen shows video, it's jittery, looks like it's in fast forward. and theres no sound. Any help would be much appreciated.

What I'm trying to do is see how easy the process is of using a PC to get a show on DVD out of the Tivo, versus just buying a standalone DVD recorder and hooking it up to the Tivo.

First, have you tried converting the .Tivo file to a .mpeg or a .VOB file?
I don't think Nero supports .Tivo files (at least, my version doesn't).
Steve, I was able to select the .tivo file just fine in Nero. It didn't seem to complain about it.

I'll try that link Greg, thanks
OK. I tried loading a .Tivo file into my version of Nero.

It worked, but when I was selecting a video, I had to change the file type from "all supported files" to "all files" in the drop down list in order for the open window to see the .Tivo files.

Out of curiosity, I'm going to make a DVD of this file and see what happens.
But in my experience, just because an application can load a file, it doesn't mean it can deal with it.
You guys have never read the classic No need for MyDVD, Nero works fine thread? :D

Bottom line, Nero works about 1/3 of the time w/o freeing your files first. I used to refer to the problem as the screechy audio/garbled video bug in Nero.

There are a couple hacks you could do w/o bothering freeing with .tivo files first using TivoDecode, VideoRedo, or DirectShow Dump. But those apps are painless to use and get the job done. I always pre-process my files before using Nero.

If you don't like the long transcode times of Nero, then look into using DVDStyler instead. I am curious to see what Dan is doing with VideoRedo v3.

I burned the .Tivo file with Nero and it worked. The only problem I had with it was the audio seemed lower that normal. Is there a way to adjust that in Nero?

FPN: I normally use Nero just to make DVDs. I edit with VRD and save as .VOB when I know I'm going to be making a DVD.
