Where my Tivo sites- there is no phone line. I tried a wireless adapter with an extended signal router (for $129) with SRX from Linksys and cannot get a signal.

I give up- why do I need to connect Tivo to a phone line/network anyways once it is set up? What if I connected it to a long phone cord every month or so- would that be OK?

The new wireless router and adapter was going to cost me double the Tivo price- I may look into a wireless modem jack jut to check that out

Thanks

You can run a cable once a week or so and it would be OK. Though I'd recommend you run ethernet (for which you'd need a wired adapter, which you can get for as low as $15 or so) instead of phone so the connections only take a moment.

Running cable through the walls for a permanent wired connection is an option. Not trivial, but also not horribly difficult or expensive.

Also look into wired jacks. It cost me $6 to add one near my TiVo. It took a little creativity to figure out where to put the wire and a couple of hours to get it routed though ;) But I liked the simplicity of the final result - ie did it once, 6 years ago, and it has "just worked" and been invisible since.
