My series 2 looks like the hard drive is on its last legs. This is my spare tv so I don't use it all that much so 40 hours or so is usually sufficient.

I've been off the board for a long while so not sure what to do for most economical replacement, ie.

a. call directv and have them send a replacement
b. replace the hard drive myself
c. get another unit on ebay

I have no plans to upgrade this tv to HD anytime in the next few years.
Your thoughts are welcome.
Thanks.

If you call DirecTV for a replacement, you'll most likely get a new R15 non-Tivo DVR. That might be fine for you, and would be the easiest way to go.

You can easily replace/upgrade the drive yourself. Check out these resources for pre-imaged or do-it-yourself upgrades ....
