I'm trying to figure out the best place to put the initial goCoax adaptor. Below is a drawing of my network as it is now.

As far as the splitters go I have:
  • BAMF 8-Way Coax Cable Splitter Bi-Directional MoCA 5-2300MHz
  • Holland 2-Way MOCA Splitter 5-1675Mhz
I have enough goCoax adaptors for each room and my goal is to have MoCa going to 8 different rooms. I've set up a point to point MoCa before but I'm stumped on this setup probably because I've read too many posts on too many sites. Now my head is just spinning.

Right now the Tivo Bolt is handling the Moca network but I'd like to have the goCoax manage it.
My initial thought was to connect a goCoax to the input of the 8-way splitter then an adapter in each room and hook the Bolt and Mini Voxs' to ethernet.
Would this work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What didn't you like about the suggestions made on your reddit thread?
... I'd suggest installing the main bridging MOCA adapter at the BOLT location, to (1) take advantage of the available Ethernet connection, and (2) to allow you to shrink the size of the MoCA network and isolate the cable modem signal from the MoCA-infused portion of your coax by moving the "PoE" MoCA filter to the input of the secondary splitter. Aside from shrinking the size of the MOCA coax and improving MoCA performance, isolating the modem line from the MoCA coax eliminates possible concerns over conflicts between MoCA signals and DOCSIS 3.1 signals and equipment.

Further, you could eliminate the separate "PoE" MoCA filter entirely and improve the signal strength delivered to the BOLT location by replacing the MoCA filter and 8-way splitter with the 7-output Amphenol DOCSIS Passive hybrid MoCA splitter ($9 at Amazon), connecting the BOLT location's coax line to the lowest-loss H1 output port. And you could add a 2-way splitter off one of the Amphenol hybrid splitter's ports to bump the total outputs to 8. (permalink)
... and network the TiVo units via Ethernet, via the goCoax-based MoCA network (and the BOLT via the co-located switch). (permalink)

Note that since you'd no longer need a MoCA-rated splitter as the initial splitter (with MoCA signals restricted by the relocated "PoE" MoCA filter), you could install a cable-rated 2-way splitter as the initial 2-way and move the MoCA 2.x-spec Holland GHS-2PRO-M splitter to an output of the Amphenol hybrid splitter to net the required 8 output ports.

Example (from the training video for the splitter):

One aside Re: the Amphenol hybrid splitter ... it has only 3 output ports that receive the incoming signal, so you should be fine with just the BOLT requiring the cable signal.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the answers to my last post. I had another post before that one about my network in general and I could make sense of that. Plus it worked and my network is stable now. In that previous post someone had mentioned the 8-way splitter and that kind of made sense to me, so I made the new post that you referenced thinking, "I have all the stuff I need and I just need a little clarification and some learning". Then there's talk of hybrid splitters, adding more splitters, and I had a moment of being overwhelmed by to many people with way more knowledge me telling me different things. I panicked, posted here, and hoped I'd get an answer that matched something I'd heard before. So the issue is my lack of understanding networking, lol.

The above quoted posts should get you there, without having to dip back into reddit's thread structure.

The short non-optimized version:
  • Move the "PoE" MoCA filter to the input of the 8-way;
  • Disable MoCA in the BOLT;
  • Install the main bridging MoCA adapter at the BOLT location, connecting the MoCA adapter's "MoCA/In" port to the wall outlet, and the BOLT coax port to the MoCA adapter's pass-through "TV/STB/Device" port ... and both devices via Ethernet to the network switch;
  • Connect the rest of the MoCA adapters to each of the other outputs of the 8-way splitter, using an Ethernet switch, at a given location, if multiple devices require Ethernet access at the location.
That's it.

Just ignore the Amphenol hybrid splitter suggestion if the above works for you.

p.s. As an afterthought, you should cap any open coax ports with 75-ohm terminators, including the MoCA adapter pass-through ports, if left unused.

That worked! I'm up and running. Thank you very much!
I still have the Amphenol hybrid splitter coming and knowing myself I won't be able to leave it alone!

That's the spirit! (chuckle)

If looking to gauge whether there's any value from switching to the hybrid splitter setup, you'll want to get a snapshot of your MoCA diagnostics before and after, as you're not likely to see any difference in effective throughput. (The other benefit of the hybrid splitter, simplifying the setup, is somewhat diminished by having to hang a 2-way splitter off it to get to 8 output ports.)
