Per the FAQ on the Tivo Website:

What signal sources does the TiVo HD DVR support?
The TiVo HD DVR supports digital cable, over-the-air digital antenna (ATSC), analog cable and analog antenna. You will need one (1) Multi-stream CableCARD or two (2) Single-stream CableCARDs to receive HD Digital channels. Without CableCARDs, you will still be able to receive standard definition analog channels, as well as analog and digital antenna channels.

Here's my situation. I have DirectPath Cable. I have no information on these people, and their service is....interesting. They don't offer HD packages, or DVRS, or anything you'd expect from a provider. When I ordered service, All I asked for was "everything". They call it their Digital Package, but I have no idea if any of them are actually digital. I have a new S2 hooked up to it now, and have never had an issue recording two things at once, on any channels. Maybe that's just an anomaly, but I don't know if that means all of my channels are analog or what.

The current setup is Cable from Wall <> splitter<> cable one to Tivo <>Cable Two to Cable Box.

Will a DTV work with this setup? How do I know before dropping $300.00?

I have called DirectPath and the CSR had no idea what cable cards were, put me on hold, and said they don't provide them.

Is there anyway to know what channels I have now are Analog and which are digital?
The TivoHD completely replaces the cable box.

You'll need a CableCard (or two, depending on what type they have) to get digital channels from your provider with guide information on the TivoHD.

CableCards decrypt the encrypted digital channels. If your cable provider can't supply you with a CableCard, then your Tivo has no means to decrypt and decode those channels.

Cable companies with 750MHz (or better) digital systems are required by law to support CableCards. This represents the overwhelming majority of systems from all major cable providers. Since you have a smaller, independent cable provider, it is possible that their cable system is older, i.e. less than 750MHz.
Since they do not have cable cards, is it a fair assumption that if I plug the Coax directly from the wall into my TV now, the channels I receive are the Analog, and the ones I don;t get are the digital?

Yes.

Although the cable company may also offer digital versions of the analog channels too (available with a cable company STB/DVR or a CableCard). This is known as digital simulcast.
Gotcha...I appreciate it. I'd REALLY like to be able to record my OTA HD programs, but can't really do that if I'm going to lose 2/3 of the channels I pay for..
For those who care...

MediaWorks is now DirecPath. DirecPath will be upgrading its properties in 2007 to a new DirecPath service model featuring DIRECTV. You are reaching this site if your property has not yet been upgraded. This site will give you access to your account information, as well as the ability to pay your bill. However, as many of products and policies are changing and may not be updated for your property on this site, we recommend that you call our office at 866 430-PATH for detailed information about services presently available in your community.

Rep said they would call me back because the conversion to D* service is not complete. But that they WILL be able to provide me cable cards once the conversion is complete
