I've had my MX-500 remote for longer than I've had the HD TiVo. Recently I've noticed some commands taking a while to respond. Specifically when I'm FFing x2 through commercials and hit play, nothing happens. I have to hit it several times before it responds. At first I thought it was the batteries. I replaced them and had the same problem. Next I thought it was the TiVo itself, so I dug out the peanut remote and it worked perfectly. The problem is with the MX-500. Has anyone had any experience with one of these crapping out?

There's been a problem learning the FF command with the HR10 Tivos. Use the appropriate preprogrammed code (should be 117) to get the FF command, then learn any missing commands. Learning from an older SD TiVo remote might also work.

It sounds to me like the issue may be with the "play" button or code. You may want to try learning from the original remote to another button on the mx500 to confirm this. If you have the IRClone device (to progam the mx500 with a computer), there are plenty of known-good MX5 files on remotecentral.com.

I have several mx500s that I use with Tivos and have never had an issue like this.

How is the PLAY key in other devices on the remote? I just had to have my mx-650 in for service, the CH DOWN stop working, used it too often. Not because of actually changing CH's, I was it surfing the internet via webtv. URC had to put a new button membrane in.

If it only occurs in one device that its probably the command, and not the button.

Just a wild stab here. Does your purchase of the HD Tivo coincide with the purchase of a plasma tv? We just got one and found our remote (also an MX500) seemed erratic. Turns out that plasmas emit a lot of IR interference. I googled around and found some steps we could take to minimize it. Let me know if I'm onto something and I'll try to remember where I found the useful info.

The remote worked fine for the past year that I've had both the plasma & the HD TiVo. This problem is a new one.
