MSD Question

I have two new TiVoHDs that qualified for MSD pricing because of a Series 1 we have used for many years. Well, we really don't need the Series 1 anymore. Do we need to keep it plugged in and connected to a phone line in order to keep the MSD qualification on the two new boxes?

It has to dial in at least once every six months.
So, if I plug in the Series 1 for a day or two every few months I should be fine. In other words, does the "dial in" happen automatically once the Series 1 starts up?
wouldn't it be cheaper to drop the subscription on it and pay one full/one msd, instead of one full/two MSDs?

Or if it's lifetime, why not transfer it?
No, you have to go to Messages&SettingsSettings/Phone to manually initiate a call, or let it sit on its own for day or three, making sure it is working.
I'd call and see if they'll let you transfer the lifetime to one of the TiVo HD boxes under the $199 offer. If not - if you haven't had one of the HD boxes more than 30 days, return it and get a new one and transfer to that one under new activation. If you've had them too long to return and get your money back - sell one and get a new one and do the transfer.

YES. when plugged back in after a period of inactivity, it will automatically make a daily call within a few hours. you do not havre to force a call as someone else suggested. Just leave it connected to the phone line for a day.

This brings up a new question
it used to be that if more than 180 days passed and you were billed the full rate, you could have the lifetimed unit connect and then your next bill would be back at the msd rate. Now the msd rate is for new subs only. If you go more than 180 days with out the lifetime connecting and your billing changes, will you get the msd back after the lifetime unit connects again or are you s.o.l. because it's existing full rate subscription?
