MRV Throughput help!

Have you explored any of the other wireless channels, such as 1, 6, or 11? Some channels may have some interference from microwaves, cordless phones, etc.

A bottleneck maybe on your other Tivo, seeing the lower signal strength.

You can also try re-positioning the wireless adapter on that Tivo to find one that brings higher strengths.

Next step should be looking into wired instead of wireless networking. MoCA is a good alternative if you have coax running to where your router is located (you already have coax to your 2 Premiere units). This will allow you to use MRS reliably as well.

There's a special on ebay on the Netgear MoCA adapters, which creates an ethernet network over your existing coax lines (coexisting with cable modems and TV).

I fully agree. My Netgear MoCa adapters are doing a terrific job. I get the same 80mps for transfers and I can still us my wireless network for my laptop

Great vendor. I bought 2 pair from them. I had one bad unit out of the box. They replaced it pronto with a return pickup for the bad one. Real service.

This sounds about right for two wireless G devices talking to each other. The theoretical bandwidth of Wireless-G is 54mbps. You can cut that down by about half if your signal is weaker than 70-80%. Cut it in half again because you have two wireless devices communicating. They will constantly be stepping on each other and backing off/retrying. I get about the same when two laptops talk on my G network. Like others have said, wired is the way to go.

I am going to also advocate for MoCa. I don't even buy the Netgear ones. You can buy old Verizon Actiontec routers on ebay for much cheaper and use them as bridges. This is my setup and I freaking love it. I put a MoCa connection in 6 rooms for less than $150. I can also turn these into wireless access points as needed.

That is a good price. I bought a pair of the Dlink ones. If the Netgear ones would have been available for that price back in 2010 I would have picked up a couple of sets.

Although I do have several of the Actiontec MoCA routers that I could have used that were provided by FiOS but I didn't want to use them since that were so huge.

It's probably about time for FiOS to erroneously send me another Actiontec. The first time I wasted over an hour trying to send it back and then eventually gave up. So now whenever they send me one by mistake I just throw it in a closet. I have three of them now gathering dust.

Thanks for your help everyone. I upgraded to Netgear WNCE3001 bridges and am now getting 30 Mb/s transfer rates, about 2x realtime. I realize that wired (either Cat 6 or MoCA) would be more reliable, but I'm not able to run any sort of cable to accomplish this. For now, I'm satisfied with the performance.

FYI that MRV rate between 2 Premieres is still pretty lousy as the wired rate is 80+ Mbps. What you have now may not be reliable enough for MRS to work properly. If your router is next to one of your Premieres then there is no need for running any additional cabling in the house for MoCA to work since it uses existing coax.

With proper signal strength and without interference you should be able to get identical speeds using the wireless bridges. In my setups if I use a wireless bridge, I can get identical transfers speeds from my Premieres as when they are connected to my wired network. (80mb/s to 90mb/s speeds, pre 20.2)(I still haven't looked closer at the transfer rates with 20.2, I got around 70mb/s rates over wired the one time I did transfers)

I have 35Mbps and streaming works great.

Yes, I realize 30 Mb/s is not great, but it's good enough, i.e., faster than realtime + commercials. Unfortunately, there is no coax going to my 2nd TiVo; it is strictly OTA. The workflow is: Record show from cable on TiVo #1, then transfer to TiVo #2 to watch it. I'm really looking forward to MRS being turned on; I hope the 30 Mb/s is going to cut it for that.
