Moving programs off of DirecTV Tivo

Is there a relatively simple way of moving things off of the DTV Tivo? There are a few things I would like to put on to DVD's (possibly after using editing software). My plan would be to hook up my computer (Apple Macintosh) to the Tivo via the USB port and hopefully see the Tivo as another hard drive. Is this possible?

You may play the "things" out to a standalone DVD writer or a VCR

Or, go to the hacking forum and ask about moving files to a computer

The simple way is to just do an analog transfer from the TiVo to the PC using an analog capture card. Or to a DVD recorder.

but have PLENTY of patience at REAL time. With the zipper installed, I can transfer a 1 hour file from the DTivo to my PC in about 5 mins.

Can you PLEASE give me keywords/links to search for in other to do that? I have a zippered Dtivo unit, but haven't been able to find out how to transfer from the Dtivo to my pc. I have experimented with the Tivoserver but I think there are conflicts with the ip address. {For instance, I run the tivo server on my pc, the tivo server shows up on the Now Playing list, but No Shows appear. And, as far as I know, this program only transfers shows from your pc to the Tivo.

I know this is a subject for the underground, but I could use a few pointers from a veteran first! :) Thanks!

Google TyTool. Then follow the instructions provided at the link you'll find. Fairly easy to transfer files to your PC. Just be sure you know the IP addresses you setup for each DTivo unit when you zippered them.
And if you're a Mac user you could use Tivotool :)

So true, but the OP said "relatively simple".

And, there is no patience involved. Just start a transfer and go to bed or have dinner. :)

You can also google mfs_ftp and TySuiteJ. I believe there may also be a module you can use with TivoWeb.
Thanks you all for the replies! I can't wait to try it out!
How do you even get your DTV Tivo on your network? The USB ports are disabled...

Pull the drive, replace the kernel, disable the firewall and stick in a small script to start telnet. :D

Actually, you need more than just the zipper to extract files from your DTivo.

But also realize that you can do nothing with that DTivo unit for the duration of whatever program you are moving to DVD.
Not quite true. It will still record season passes. And, that's why I said "go to bed or have dinner". :)
