I'm moving to a new home, and I have two questions about my DirecTivo:

1. When DirecTv hooks up my equipment in my new home, will I lose everything on my Now Playing List and all my Season Passes? Just wondering if they need to do some sort of reset when they hook up the service at the new place.

2. There will be a couple days between the day we move in and the day DirecTv can come out, so is there a way to watch programs on my Now Playing list while I don't have DirecTv service at the new house?

1. No. There should be no need for a reset, so you should not lose any recordings.

2. Assuming we're talking about a D* receiver with TiVo service, yes, you should be able to watch recordings without service being active. You may get some message screens, but all should be ok.

Called DirecTv today to take advantage of the "free moving" service, and they only do it for free with a new two-year commitment. What a joke. Of course, I said no, so "Free" ended up being $118.

I'm not chaining myself to them for two years...if my DirecTivo box fails within that two year period, or if I chose to finally go to HD, then I'm stuck with their DVR for up to two years.

I would have said yes. I've been a Directv customer for almost a decade. I have no plan of moving to cable, and, at this point, FIOS would be way too expensive for the second year.

I understand that you are hesitant about Directv's HD DVR, but your cable company is only going to have their own generic one. What's the difference?.

And, since the recent loss of additional stations and the improvement in quality, from what I understand, Direct is at the top of the game with HD distribution.

I only have a hi-def TV on the porch and am using a roof-top antenna for OTA. So my Directv account is still just the SD, myself.

No. I would have saved the money. But, that's me.

I too only have the HD via the OTA attena, but since I watch most stuff recorded on my DirecTivo, I see most stuff in SD.

True, the cable company's have their own DVR, but I'm still waiting for Comcast to start using Tivo software...anyone know what the status is on that? If thats a year or two away then I might take the two year commitment. Plus, last time I looked into it getting an HD-DVR and HD service from DirecTv was much more costly than getting it from Comcast.
