I currently have 2 directv tivos. a directv tivo series 1, and a directv tivo series 2.

I just bought an hdtv, and would like to upgrade to high def content.

Therefore I am thinking about calling direct tv and ordering one of the new direct tv pvr's. (I know, they are not TIVOs :( )

We have a vacation home in big bear lake that currently has cable from the local provider.

Can I move my series 1 box to our vacation home, and get directv there? (I'll have to install a tivo dish)

Are there any issues?

thanks in advance,
Jerry

Other than the fact you have just confessed to the entire world that you intend to violate your service agreement, How would they know? If they were to find out you would be guilty of theft of service. And as of right now I would call Directv movers connection and order a new dish and installation of such in your vacation home because that is the right thing to do. :(

I'm not trying to break any laws here. I am a LONG time Directv and Tivo customer looking at my options to upgrade. :)

rbtravis; thanks for the info. quite frankly, I haven't read the service agreement. (I'm not a lawyer and that stuff is too confusing. That's why I come here, to get advice from the experts! )

I think that I'll call directv and see what they have to say.

P.S. has anyone read the tivocommunity terms of service? :)

You can disconnect the service at whatever house you are not using and reverse the procedure when you return from the mountains. i.e. Only have directv at the house you are currently using. :)

A few years ago, I moved to a marina about 3 hours from my home. I took my DirecTiVo with me & put a dish on a tripod. I did not change my address because I thought I would only be there a couple of months. I wound up staying about 5 months with no problems. I had a landline & didn't have any problems.

There are 2 addresses on your DTV account. A service address and a billing address. Usually these 2 are the same, but they don't have to be. You're service address (where the hardware is located) SHOULD, however, be where the hardware is located.

My situation was a bit different then the original poster's, but I've had a different billing and service address for over 5 years now.

In my case the problem was that the local channels you receive on DTV are supposedly dictated by the Nielsen viewing area in which you live. This isn't isn't really the case though. The local channels are dictated by the ZIP CODE in which you live, which don't always match the boundary of the Nielsen Viewing Area. I live in a rural county that is located in one viewing area, but I receive my mail through the post office in a second viewing area, and thus I have a zip code that doesn't match the viewing area in which I reside. I went around in circles with DTV about this for quite some time until I found out on a different board that there is a fairly simple way to fix the issue. As I mentioned, my DTV service has been working wonderfully for over 5 years now.

Of course this is all working under the assumption that all your hardware is located at one residence. If you begin locating hardware that is on a single account at different houses in order to avoid paying the basic charges more then once, that's probably a different situation.
