That Motorola box is a dual tuner HiDef DVR. Don't bother trying to use a TiVo to control it. I'd revert the TiVo to record the analog channels on the cable.
I believe the 6412 and several other Motorola's can be run in a non-DVR mode, I know in the past I had identical units, one was a DVR, the other didn't have a HD.smithken31100 said:I currently have a 6412 and it works fine with the Tivo and the IR blaster.
If you don't pay for it, they don't enable it... I have a friend with a "non-dvr 6412"JimSpence said:Why waste the DVR function of the 6412? I ask rhetorically.![]()
That makes sense.classicsat said:Redo GS, and choose cable, no box.
You can't (or more appropriately *shouldn't*) be running DVR's in series, and if all the cableco will give you is a 6412, then having it in non-dvr mode so it works as a cable box would be a good thing. (I believe a HD-less 6412 or similar works this way)gsutkin said:dianebrat, what is the advantage of running the 6412 in non-DVR mode?
Thanks for all of the advice!dianebrat said:You can't (or more appropriately *shouldn't*) be running DVR's in series, and if all the cableco will give you is a 6412, then having it in non-dvr mode so it works as a cable box would be a good thing. (I believe a HD-less 6412 or similar works this way)
It hasn't missed a channel change yet and I don't have a tent.gsutkin said:Thank you - a quick question for each of you:
smithken31100, how reliable is your IR blaster at chaging channels? Did you have to build an "IR tent"?

Because I can't stand the 6412 DVR. Right now I'm getting the DVR service, and a few other services, from the cable company for free, this will run out in February. I don't want to cancel the DVR service because that might stop the other services from being free. The deal with the cable company runs out in February and I'll drop their crappy DVR service since I won't pay for it. At that time I don't know if the cable company will make me change boxes or disable the DVR function in the 6412.JimSpence said:Why waste the DVR function of the 6412? I ask rhetorically.![]()
Running 2 DVRs in series is always a recipe for disaster, it cause more issues, and for that matter.. *why* even think of running a DVR off a DVR? what if you pause the moto DVR and the Tivo wants to change a channel? just don't do itgsutkin said:Thanks for all of the advice!
Why not run the two in series?
How do you convert a 6412 to non-dvr mode?
