Motorola DCH3200 - Serial Connection??

Hi all,

I just moved and got 2 Motorola DCH3200 boxes from Comcast. I noticed that they have USB, IEEE 1394 (not sure if they're active) and what appears to be a mini-jack plug marked serial. It looks very similar to the one on my S2 TiVos. Does anyone know if I need a special cable to connect the two mini-jack type serial ports to each other?

Thanks!

Just curious-where are you located that in the U.S.??? Is this box an "HD" only box. I would love to trade in my "Big DCT 6200" Is the box a little smaller? Does anyone know if comcast is using these "DCH 3200's" in Northeast Philadelphia?
You have to ask for them (or ask them when they will have the DCH boxes; they should by now).

There is a chance you will eventually be able to buy them, since the DCH series are cablecard boxes. There is also a likely chance the serial port could be TiVo compatible.

In looking at the User Manual (online) it appears this serial port is labeled as "Service Only"...so it might not be useful. I had to put back my IR emitters.

But, if anyone finds anything out differently, or how to enable the serial port, please keep us informed!
I too just got a Motorola DCH3200 via Comcast. Not sure how to connect it to my Tivo S2 in order to change the channels... looks like maybe I could go with a mini to mini cable but was curious if anyone from Tivo has any comments... Someone must have a solution since Comcast is now using this box and there must be be thousands of Tivo S2 users out there?
Hi, I got mine to work. You need to switch inputs on your remote to get the HD channels to come in in the HD format. My charter cable installer said that it would not work but it does. Basically, plug in the red white and yellow jacks from the tivo to the 3200 box.

Also, I had to use the IR cables.

Where can I find this DCH 3200 User Manual online??

Thanks in advance...
Search the motorola broadband site. Or just google.
Thanks, I hit up the Motorola site again and found it this time.
Hello - saw your post on the serial port for the dch 3200. I am trying to intsall a remote IR emitter. Magnolia tech said it would install direct into cable box - I do not see where or how that works. Any recommendations? Thanks.
It doesn't connect to the cable box at all, electrically. The IR blaster plugs into the TiVo, and its emitters are directed at the IR sensor on the cable box.

Hello: I have the Tivo S2 and am having fits with finding the correct IR code for the channel changing. I've used 10005, 10073, 10046, 10006, 10042, which were recommended by Tivo Center and they work sporadically. This isn't to connect the Tivo to the TV, It's to channel change on the Motorola DCH3200 HD box using IR cable.

Any help would be appreciated, framemaker
