Hi all,

Tivo S3 w/cablecards installed.

Odd thing began happening last night (before I did the 9.1 update, but it happened again after). Most, tho not all, my HD channels went back and silent. When I changed to an HD channel sometimes it said 'channel not available' or i got a black screen with no audio. The only variable I can point to was that I was using the online scheduling feature at Tivo. When I restart the Tivo it seems to correct it for a while, but it happened when the Tivo changed the channel to record a program on CW-HD.

Did I miss this bug/issue somewhere?

I noticed the same thing this week. Cablevision has added TBSHD to our line up, but for a full day the station wouldn't show up on my HD TiVo and the
'channel not available' message would appear. Last night I left the buffer on TBSHD and watched a recording, when I was done TBSHD was working. When I surf channels and approach TBSHD from a lower channel, it's still just a black screen (and the channels above it then are black). However, When I approach TBSHD from upper channels, it shows up no problem.

My fear is that this is a result of Cablevision starting up the use of SDV.. Could it be?

Interesting. They did come back without having to restart last night (though I thought it was more about time than direction). I'll have to check that the next time it occurs.

Stupid question: SDV?

SOOOO jealous that you've gotten TBS-HD already, we're still waiting

Article on SDV: cedmagazine.cXX/NCTA-proposes-Tuning-Resolver.aspx - replace xx with om, don't have permission to post links yet.

Basically, cable is saving bandwith by only sending you the channels that you are tuned to. This requires two-way communication that TiVo's are not currently equipped to do. Thus, turning the TiVo box into a fancy doorstop.

I was banking that Cablevision would wait to launch SDV until after Fios TV was available in my market... that's why I'm hoping that this is not an SDV issue.

And don't be too jealous of TBSHD... 99% of the programming are SD sitcoms stretched out to HD aspect ratio.

Yeah but they are broadcasting the MLB playoffs on TBS and I would guess TBS HD... Thanks for the follow up tho.

It just seemed odd that I had all this start right after, and I mean immediately after, I was scheduling show to record using Online Scheduling for the first time it seemed to be cause and effect.

Cheers

Same problem.
It's been coming and going on two S3's, but much much worse on one than on the other, here in SWFL with Comcast.
The problem seems to be signal strength, as it 'self repairs' if a reboot does not fix it (put on one of the channels that is not coming in, and leave it for about 5 minutes, then all the channels work).

Odd things to note (do you have the same problems)...

The number of channels on the 'Acquiring channel information' screen is wrong intermittently on reboot, then it seems to 'self repair' as noted above. This only happens on unit "B."
When the channels stop working (don't know why), going to the Signal Strength test under Settings-Channels comes up with an ODD channel map (missing more channels than are not coming in).

I need to call Comcast anyway again about my billing, and they had said something about my signal strength. Maybe I can get a tech out this weekend to check it and perhaps bring different cards for unit "B" as we get a "problem when authorizing this device" and/or "CP Auth Failure" on it about 80% of the time when we pull the cards and re-insert them.

I spoke too soon. TBS HD got added this afternoon, just in time to see my BOSOX take on the Angels... Whew!

I was just told that I will not be getting TBS HD on my TiVoHD in Charlotte (TW). I've also been told that I will not be getting any Switched Digital channels in the future. I wouldn't have bought this TiVoHD if I had known I'd be misssing channels. Big disappointment here. How is this in accordance with must-carry laws, etc? Seems so wrong. Will TiVo agree to cancel my monthly charges if I can get Best Buy to take back the box? Anyone know?

That's why I posed it as a question. I'm not honestly sure. I've never read the must-carry laws. Sounds like you have. I was under the impression that cable cards needed to display all of the same (non-on demand) programming as a regular digital cable box. Guess I was mistaken.

All I'm saying is that it strikes me as a bit of a deal-breaker to not have all the HD channels display on my TivoHD that I'm paying Time Warner to provide. Wish the Best Buy website explained this before I bought the box.

What is your opinion on this?

With my S3, CC 1 would show HBOHD, MAXHD, SHOHD, StarsHD and so on, but CC 2 would not show these channels, nothing but blackness even when your recording a season pass.

Vice Versa kind of like, whatever channels you could see on CC 1, you wouldn't be able to see them on CC 2.
Comcast and Tivo techs can't seem to find the problem.
