Can someone explain to me what exactly the mirror fee is (is it for hardware or some subscription?) and exactly whether or why I would need it?

I have Tivo HD and TWC in NYC

I spent hours on the phone with TW and nobody I talked to knew anything. And this is the third time ive explicitly ask, "so all i have to pay is $xx.xx" and even though they said yes, I end up paying more.

Thanks

In directv parlance, a mirroring fee is what you pay to receive your subscribed package on a second receiver. If you want it on a third receiver, you pay a mirroring fee for that one as well. Since directv moved to a leased receiver model, they generally do not charge mirroring fees anymore - just receiver lease fees. From my experience, this is the way cable companies operate too - they charge you a monthly fee and call it a receiver lease fee - not a mirroring fee - but it amounts to the same thing.

This sounds like it's NOT a TiVo question, but is rather something you need to talk to your cable company about.

TiVo does charge a fee for an extra TiVo on your account (usually, if not always, lower than the regular fee), but again, this sounds like it's a Time Warner quesiton which this forum isn't for. (You mention talking to TW, but don't actually say it's them who are billing you a "mirror fee".)

Maybe the general chit-chat forum here on this website?

It could be you have two cablecards, or a cable box also., any which need authorized, the first with your cable TV packages, the any more you pay a small fee for.
