Minor issue with my new Tivo HD

Hi everyone,
Been a big Tivo fan for years and have two Series 2 and just upgraded one to a Series 3. Cable Co installed the cable cards today and went pretty smooth I was surprised.

Now, I am noticing just a minor hassle when I go into tivo central, select "Find Programs" and continue on into Brows by favorite channel and choose a day and time and hit the arrow to see whats on that particular time the system will freeze for a good 30 seconds before I am able to view whats on? Then, when I scoll down to the bottom of the current list on the screen and want to continue on to pull up whats on the next screen it will freeze again for a good 30 seconds before I can do anything.

This cycle will repeat for each screen I try to get to? Is it my system of this normal on the S3?

If you just got the CableCARDs installed today and repeated Guided Setup, it's possible the box is still indexing all the Guide data and that's affecting performance. Give it a few more hours and see if the problem persists.

So is it an S3 or a THD? Your thread title says Tivo HD but you say S3 in your post.
The box is slower than usual for the first 48-72 hours while the Tivo indexes guide information in the background.

If you got the Series3, you should receive an update to 8.3.x that improves performance. Tivo has also just begun to roll out new 9.1 software for the Series3 and TivoHD to improve performance as well.

I was thinking the same thing windracer and gave it a few hours before I posted to be sure, even rebooted the unit and tried without the network cable connected.

However, don't think I repeated the guided setup after the cablecards were put in, just rescanned the channels so I'm doing one step better then guided setup now (would have done this if I seen it first). I'm in the process of clearing and deleting everything and starting from new so should know something in about an hour.

As for the S3 or HD its a Tivo HD but I thought both were concidered series 3 no? System info lists it as series 3.

Kind of new to the series 3 so if you don't mind my asking what is THD now
Yes, both are considered "series 3" machines however "Series 3" usually refers to the more expensive HD box released a year or so while TiVoHD is the newer less expensive HD version.
Well, the S3 and the THD are both built on the Series3 platform but they are two separate boxes with different hardware.

Around here, the S3 refers to the THX certified box with the OLED display (the one originally released last year) and the THD is the new box that just came out this summer (the one you have)

Like bkdtv said, give it a few days, see how it works out.

We'll that will be good to know bkdtv :)

At least when I'm back up I won't be pulling what hair I have left out trying to figure out whats wrong.

Yea, I was at 8.3 before I cleared everything
Thanks Guys.

I'll let you all know in a couple a days.
OK guys, been 5 days now and the issue has not got any better. I called Tivo support and was told by the tech this was the first he had heard of this issue and was going to try it out on a Tivo HD while I was on hold. Turns out he could not get to a TivoHD so he shot the issue up to an engineer that was going to get back to me, that was two days ago.

Now, something else I have found out. This only happens with "Favorite Channels" If I go into Find Programs/Record by Time and Channel/Brows by Time/Favorite Channels and select day and time and hit the arrow button to see whats on its 45 seconds before I get a lineup

Same when I scroll to the botton of the current lineup displayed and continue to say the next hour, again 45 second wait for a lineup.

However, if I choose Brows by "All Channels" rather then favorite channels I get a lineup in about 3 to 5 seconds

I'm hoping someone could set up a few "favorite Channels" on their Tivo HD and post their results here please.

I even tried eliminating some of the "Favorite Channels" in case I had to many which were 6 or if one particular channel was causing problems and tried it again and seemed like it got worse and the delay was up to one minute?

Have you tried using the guide to do this?

That was the first thing I did after the cablecards were inserted, didn't help so I thought I'd reset the unit and start from scratch as said above. Thats when I was told here (above) that it could take upto 72 hours to index everything so I waited.
