Meta Data using kmttg

Sorry if this has been discussed, I have spent an hour looking....

I love kmttg and use it to upload .tivo files, decript, and trim commercials and then I store them on my DLNA server (Netgear RAID box).

Everything I have read about keeping the meta data with the .mpg files (I'm not transcoding to mp4) seems to involving using PyTivo and 'push'. I would like to use my Tivo boxs (S3, HD) to 'pull'. Is it possible to have the meta data 'pulled' with the .mpg file so that the program on my tivo is the same just w/o commercials.

Thanks, Stu

The method using text pyTivo metadata files was first developed for pyTivo pulls, before pushes were even possible (and still works). Doesn't kmttg create these files automatically if so configured?

The metadata files are used by pyTivo "pulls". In fact pulls retain much more data than "pushes". Each .mpg should have a corresponding .mpg.txt file (which kmttg creates for you automatically if you have metadata task enabled).
Sorry I was not clear on my request. I would prefer to not have to host a pyTivo service and instead use my current DLNA server on my RAID box as my 'pull' source.

Is there anyway to add the meta data that kmttg extracts back into the video file that is hosted on my NetGear DLNA server?

Thanks again, Stu
MPEG2 (.mpg) files cannot contain metadata. (That's one reason the pyTiVo text metadata file system was created.) MPEG4 and WTV files can contain metadata and there are utilities that can read pyTiVo metadata files and insert the metadata into them. Also, I believe that if you have kmttg create MPEG4 files it can insert the metadata into them.
So if not pyTivo then which program are you going to use to pull the data back to TiVos? TiVo Desktop? If so then leave the programs as .TiVo.

Thanks, is there a utility that can create .tivo files (with the meta data) so that they can be pulled down into my Tivo boxes from my NetGear DLNA server?

I have lots of storage on my RAID boxes (10TB) so there is no need to convert to mp4 and do the runtime transcoding when 'pulling'.

The only practical way I know to edit TiVo files and output TiVo files retaining the metadata is with VideoReDo, minimum cost $50. I don't know if kmttg can automate that VRD process or not. VAP (link in signature) can automate it but it doesn't download the TiVo files from TiVo to PC. You have several choices for downloading, including kmttg, TiVoPlaylist and TiVo Desktop. VAP monitors the download folder and automatically processes files that appear. And it can be configured to scan for commercials then put the file on hold until you review/adjust the cuts before outputting the final file.
The TiVo does not speak DLNA. That particular NAS device actually comes with a limited HMO (aka Calypso) server, which is what the TiVo talks to. You can run pyTivo directly on the NAS to get a more capable HMO server. (Running it directly on the NAS is what I would recommend, if you don't have to transcode, and in your situation you wouldn't have to.)

But yes, you can create .TiVo files, and you don't need VideoReDo for that. See here.
