I heard a loud bang from a lightning strike really close this morning. Now my TiVo will not come on. The light on the front of the TiVo Roamio OTA lights, but I get a blue screen on the tv. I unplugged it and rebooted it several times and the light on the front comes back on, but that is it. Any help? All of my other equipment works fine and it is all hooked together with HDMI cables. Power in house did not even blink.

I got a lightning hit a few years ago that took out several things, including the HDMI port on a TiVo. It still works, but only with the rgb out cable. I forget if it’s called component or composite; it looked like crap on my TV and I ended up replacing it with a Bolt. I seen to recall that Weaknees could fix the hdmi, but never bothered since the device was almost a decade old.

I left it unplugged for about two hours. When I plugged it back in, the two lights on the left came on, the right one blinking constantly. I hit the record button on the remote and the recording light came on, but still no picture, so I pulled out the TiVo and wiggled the HDMI cable and the picture came back. I had originally unplugged the HDMI and replugged it several times, but nothing happened. It is now working. I guess it took a minor surge from the lightning. and it finally reset. Oh well, all is well that ends well.

About 10 days ago we got a direct lightning hit on the pole transformer at the end of the driveway. It did $2300 worth of damage to our backup generator, took out the main board on a Samsung TV (bought & installed a replacement board for $25!), the Instant Hot water dispenser under the sink was dead, two TiVo Minis got fried and the HDMI port on the Roamio Plus which is plugged into a Yamaha Receiver went dead. Using the component video cables with the Yamaha receiver was not a good solution so I bought a Component YPbPr to HDMI converter on Amazon for about $18 and we're back in business!
