I was an early adopter of FiOS Internet, but held off on TV because DirecTV was sufficient as I had no HD TV, I had three DirecTV TiVo units (hacked and networked for MRV), and I was waiting for a commitment to run out from getting the third unit. I especially liked being able to record up to 5 things (one unit had only one cable run) and be able to watch any of them anywhere.

But its time to make the plunge. Two things that are pushing me over the edge:

- MRV coming for Series3/HD

- Lifetime transfer offer

I figure I could get two HD units, have the lifetime service on one and get the discounted service on the second. I could use a regular STB for the third location, possibly even with the old Series 1 (since they'll let that service continue for a year after transfer).

I'm more curious as to what I'd be losing.

- Is there something that would allow me to upload or otherwise watch my own videos, from either a Windows or Linux box? I suppose its premature since MRV isn't ready yet, but it probably isn't much different than the later version of the Series 2 units, which I think is different than what I've got with the DTV units.

I like to keep some vacation videos that the kids like to watch on my Linux server, and tivoserver does a great job for that.

Hmm...I guess that's all I can think of right now...

I did the same switch. 5 DTivos (hacked) to 3 TivoHDs. FIOS has a nasty 7 STB limit and in Northern VA Verizon still doesn't have M-cards, so two of my Tivos take up two "STBs" and the other one is running with a single tuner. I've got two other regular verizon boxes (non DVRs - the Motorola DVR sucks.)

The picture quality blows away DTV, and even with 30/5 internet my monthly cost is lower. phone+tv+internet with verizon is less than phone with verizon, Internet with cox, and TV with DTV.

I've upgraded the storage on one of the TivoHDs to 750gb. Once MRV is out there will be nothing left keeping me "wanting".

I own 5 DTivos (1- HR10-250).

Tivo was the reason I stuck with DTV, along with the picture quality over analog cable - when I signed up.

Now all the things that I made the choice to DTV are fading away...

no more TiVo in the future (at least at this time)
picture quality is a non-issue with digital cable
no up charge for locals

the added benefits:

HD locals without OTA antenna
VERY FAST HSI (high-speed internet & digital voice phone service discounts)
no rain-fade
one bill
whole house wiring supported via splitters

It's ironic that the company that only got .99 cents per subscriber will be taking MANY of those customers over to their competitors!

TiVo is the main REASON I stuck with DTV, and that's the reason I'm leaving!
