I'm thinking of buying the new TIVO HD & going with Comcast. When I ask thme to bring CableCards, do I ask for S cards or M cards?

Ideally, you would want a single MCard.

If not available, you will need 2 SCards for full functionality.
Are the cable companies dragging their feet on the M Cards? Wasn't it mandated that they start offering them as of July 1st?
It was mandated that their STBs and DVRs use separable security and the only viable separable security that was ready was CableCARD. Their is no mandate specifically about M-cards, though many have gone with them because it will cost less for them to offer a DVR with 1 M-Card vs a DVR with 2 S-Cards.
No, it was mandated they deploy only cable boxes that use cablecards.

It is my perception that the timeline on M-card deployment is totally based on supply.
I called Charter and asked for an M card, and a subcontracter brought out an S card and had no idea on how to install and activate it. But a second call had a Charter emp at my house with an M card and it works great. Whole thing from first call to my M card working was about 1 week.
