This is the discussion thread for the first half of Season Five of Lucifer, on Netflix August 21, 2020. Eight episodes now, the next eight are Season Five-B, sometime in 2021.

There didn't seem to be much use or need for individual episode threads last time, so let's try one season thread and see how it works. That seems to be the trend for most streaming series.

Episode titles:

"Really Sad Devil Guy"
"Lucifer! Lucifer! Lucifer!"
"¡Diablo!"
"It Never Ends Well for the Chicken"
"Detective Amenadiel"
"BluBallz"
"Our Mojo"
"Spoiler Alert"

A couple of questions:
  • I had thought that God hadn't been seen or heard from in some time. Is that right? In S1 was Amenadiel directed by God to take Lucifer back to Hell, or did he take up that task himself? I don't remember.
  • If God hadn't been directly heard from, then why didn't Amenadiel or Lucifer make a bigger deal of the idea that it was God who told Amenadiel that it was safe to leave Hell?

Finished! [Aside: need to rethink how to do Lucifer threads, I really wanted to post after some of these episodes, but didn't want to see any spoilers]

I enjoyed this season, took some turns I never saw coming. The Noir episode, the twin, Lillith... everything added up to a surprising season.

Randoms:

* Rose! (from Lost)

* Love chased is always better than love found. I don't know that I enjoyed DeckerStar as much as the pursuit. I think part of it was Chloe. She's a strong character, and she seemed to have lost some of her edge as a person in love. I found her too dewy-eyed much of the time.

* Loved the Noir (B&W) episode.

* I like that Lesley-Ann Brandt had an active season. She brings so much to Lucifer, so seeing her many stories was great.

* Poor Ella. Love found, love lost. Although I think we all saw it coming.

* Eps 5 was amazing. Just. Amazing. "Detective Amenadiel", with the nun, and Linda's reveal, and so much more.

I'm sure there are more Hallmark Moments, but that's enough for now. Really looking forward to S5B next year.

When I finished E8, basking in the glow of the Allstate Guy:rolleyes:, Netflix offered to show me the pilot, S1E1. Heck it's been five years, why not. What a fun episode. It's worth a rewatch.

I forgot to cover Lucifer's (almost) "I lo..." moment. It's clear there's a reason he hasn't said it. Either he can't say the word, or something tied to it. Maybe his Dad told him if he ever says the word LOVE he'll lose his immortality, or some such nonsense. But it's obvious to all of us it's not just Lover's Block.

All the more reason for S5B to get here already! I saw where production is starting up this month. They need to film the final episode of S5B, the one they had to stop shooting when the pandemic closed the set. And then they'll immediately segue into shooting the final, really final, S6. Number of eps TBD.

Number of eps TBD.
Sources tell TVLine that the supernatural-tinged procedural's sixth and final season will run a total of eight (8) episodes - or half the length of Season 5, which released its first batch of episodes on Aug. 21. (Season 5 originally and famously received a 10-episode order, but that got expanded to 16 and is being released in two halves.) This final salvo of eight episodes will bring the series' grand total to… 91.

'Lucifer' Jumps to Top of Nielsen's Streaming Top 10 | Hollywood Reporter

The fifth season premiere of Lucifer drove the Netflix show to the No. 1 spot in Nielsen's streaming top 10 rankings.

Season five of the show debuted Aug. 21 and immediately moved into the top spot for the week of Aug. 17-23, according to the ratings service's weekly rankings. Netflix users in the United States spent 1.59 billion minutes watching the show - Nielsen measures all episodes of a series, not just the newly released ones - during the week.

Lucifer also sat first in Netflix's own top 10 rankings for Aug. 22 and 23.

Lucifer displaced The Umbrella Academy, which had spent the previous two weeks at No. 1 in the rankings. The latter show dropped to third place for the week of Aug. 17, two-plus weeks out from the premiere of season two.

Lucifer (Finally) Sets Date for Second Half of Season 5 on Netflix

Lucifer will serve up the second half of its penultimate season on Friday, May 28, Netflix has announced.

Season 5's first eight episodes dropped back on Aug. 21 of the year 2020.

Following a pandemic-related pause, Lucifer resumed production in late September, to finish up the 16th and final episode of Season 5 and then segue directly into the start of production on its sixth and truly, sincerely, definitely final, final season, which will run a total of 10 episodes.
