I know this is the ultimate First World Problem, but I really have enjoyed being able to watching You Tube on a bigger screen. About a week ago, the Internet disconnected, and nothing I've done since (which included replacing my modem) has worked. Customer service hasn't been helpful either.

Do I have an obsolete unit? How do I get it reconnected? I've tried unplugging it, rebooting it, etc. and nothing is working.

Roamio models are not obsolete.

Beyond that, you'd need to provide more details on your setup. (Specific Roamio model #, method of Internet connection, how home is networked, etc.)

Ethernet connection (for many years) and the Tivo is across the room from the modem.

You do not seem to understand what information we need to actually try to help you.

How is your house connected to the Internet (who is your Internet provider)? Cable? DSL? Wi-Fi hotspot?

Is your TiVo connected to your home network by Ethernet WIRE? Or is it Wireless?

When you look at the Network Settings on your TiVo, what is the status?

What version of the TiVo software are you running? TE3? TE4?

Do you have other devices in your home that can still use the Internet, such as a computer? If so, how is that device connected to your home network?

Do you know how to find and display the IP address for your computer and your TiVo? If so, what is the current IP address for each of them?

Did you try wireless to rule out that you’re Ethernet port on the TiVo may have went?

Plus the YouTube on the Roamio is so slow, any streaming stick or smart tv woos YouTube app is a much better option for that purpose

I use a cable provider, my ISP for the converter is 192.168.10.1, and checking the settings always says "Connection failed"; further inquiry has a list of firewalls that might be up that's as long as my arm.

Are the lights for the Ethernet Jack for the TiVo illuminated?

Same for the Router's Ethernet Port where the TiVo plugs in? It's lit up and blinking?

Is your TiVo set to a Static IP Address? In the TiVo's Network Status, it says it's set to Automatic?

Since it's worked up until now, something broke. The Ethernet Cable? The TiVo's Ethernet Port?

Have you rebooted your Router/Gateway?

I did even more troubleshooting than I thought was possible, and it says there's a problem with the network adapter. So, I just might be replacing it some time soon (I'm in the blizzard zone for this weekend).

In your replies you refer to a "converter" can you expand on what you're calling a "converter"? maybe a picture?
You refer to "a problem with the network adapter" and say you might be replacing it, if it's a Tivo generated issue the "network adapter" is part of the tivo and not replacable.

Do you have any other device in the house, possibly a smart TV that you can plug into the network cable instead of the Tivo? that would be a non-technical way to diagnose the network cable and the Cable/modem/router.

and @radtechy asked an important question that wasn't answered, and that is if it's possible to try wifi on the Roamio as a test.

You'd be much better off getting a cheap Roku or Fire stick, Youtube on the Roamio sucks compared to just about any other option.

I never had any You Tube issues through my Roamio, unless I was having Internet issues to begin with, but based on the information I've received here and elsewhere, it appears that a Roku will be in my near future.

I'm dealing with home repairs right now, so I'll tackle that next.

Update: I got a message earlier stating that I had 3 days' worth of information left on my Tivo, and after that, I'm basically on my own, unless I can re-establish Internet connection. Customer service isn't available until morning, so I'll deal with it then (again).

After doing a little research, it also appears that Roku, etc. is almost useless without a smartphone, and I am one of the few people out there who does not own one and has no desire to do so, either.

A Roku's core functionality isn't smartphone-related at all. It's just a box that hosts apps for Internet streaming services ... so all that's needed is a Roku, a home network, Internet service (of sufficient bandwidth to support the desired streaming quality) ... and possibly a subscription to a streaming service.

That said, the Roku does offer smartphone integration, from remote control via the Roku smartphone app, to being able to cast media (photos, videos) from the smartphone to the Roku via the Roku smartphone app. (Feel free to link to the information you reviewed that gave the impression that a smartphone was required for Roku use.)

Update: After an hour-long phone call today, and some unplugging and rerouting, my Tivo is fully functional again.

I asked the phone rep if I could high-five her over the phone.

I had to remove the network adapter (that thing that looks like a flip phone), change from Ethernet to wifi, and reboot the whole shebang. Most of that phone call time was spent babysitting my Tivo when it rebooted.

Glad it worked, but this is why we asked all those questions that you didn't answer
That "network adapter" is something you wouldn't need on a Roamio and we would have had you remove it since a Roamio has built-in wifi. The only time to potentially use it with a Roamio is if you also had a mini.
