Many expect Tivo to officially support "plug and play" eSATA drive expansion before the end of the year. That support could possibly come as soon as the TTG / MRV update in November.

Just something to keep in mind before you open your box.

Speculation about "official" eSATA support for the S3 and TiVo HD coming by year end is based on some comments made by TiVo's Jim Denney back in July.

A TiVo beta tester let it slip that they were testing eSATA back in August as well. (Obviously a violation of their NDA and the post was pulled within days.)

So a lot of folks think that the next upgrade will include eSATA support along with MRV and TTG and that the new TiVo supported eSATA drives will be available by Christmas. Best Buy is reported to be the exclusive retailer.

Some of our crystal balls have been known to fog up before though. ;)
